What Is This....

This unit is bolted on the outer frame surrounding the main radiator on the right hand side of Rv, which you can get too via wheelarch area.
Sorry the picture is not too good.
It has two large terminal connectors with large feed cables to them, also a few other smaller cables to it.

It's a solenoid, and given the location, I'd have to say its the coach / house battery isolator.

If you don't already know, it is basically an electrically-operated switch, when the engine is running it completes the circuit between the two large cables to allow them to charge off the alternator. When you shut off the engine the power to it stops and the connection is broken. This keeps you from running down the engine starting battery by using too much power in the m/h.

I take it is a 1999 F53 or newer.
If so that is your Starting Motor Relay.
This relay connects the battery power to the starter solenoid.
Looks like it has a lot of dielectric grease on it to keep the cable connections from corroding.

Yup I would agree. The tell tale sign is the factory wiring harness. You can tell its a starter related circuit based on the rubber wire holder.

Do the smaller cables connect to the same studs as the larger wires?? If so it is a binding post. If they connect to smaller terminals it is a solenoid as suggested. Can't tell how long/high the black thing is. If it is a couple of inches high most likely a solenoid.

These early Ford solenoids usually had a larger cable from the battery on one side. Looks to be the right side. Usually there will be some other wires connected to this and that power goes to the underhood fuse box. The other wire in the rubber shell goes to the starter solenoid. The small wire that uses a round terminal is the relay trigger wire.

As I said above this is the Starting Motor Relay and not the Starter Solenoid.
The Starter Solenoid is mounted to the Starter.

Yes this relay does operate the solenoid down on the starter.

Yes the smaller wires go to one of the posts and the unit is not very high.

Thank You for all Replies..
