What is this?
Doing a pre trip inspection I noticed this part badly rusted and held together with a zip tie. It is mounted on the bottom of the housing for the dash A/C evaporator. It has what looks like a rubber bladder inside and maybe a spring?
Do I need it?
Help!

Vacuum actuator for the recirculating air door.
Should be a plugged vacuum hose around some where.
Got to love road salt.
If the rest of your A/C system is working you should be ok.
Max A/C is the only time the door helps out.

My guess is that it's a vacuum operated actuator for one of the heater control functions. Probably the recirculate control, or possibly a hot water shutoff for when you select cold. The other functions, like air distribution are easier to notice malfunctions on.

That's funny. Max A/C has been working ICE cold like a champ!

Could be that whoever ran the cable tie , pulled the air door closed so you always get recirculated air , no fresh for vents .
Not a big deal in a MH , you could run out of oxygen in a Honda though.
Winter travel I've closed the door to help the heater keep up.
MAX A/C does two things , shuts off the water flow to the heater core and closes the recirculating air door so your always cooling inside air , not bringing in and cooling outside, hot air.

I noticed on our recent trip that when I switch the system off from max A/C, I still get ice cold air coming through the dash vents. If I slide the temp to hot, it changes to hot air but continues to come out even though the system if "off".
Is this normal or related to this actuator problem?

The system should slowly warm up , after the A/C is shut off, may take a few mins. though. As to any air flow with the system shut down, I'm not sure. .
Did the fan shut off ? It could be that the default air flow for the system off is through the vents. Most times , default is defrost, so if the vacuum system fails , you can still clear the windshield for winter driving.
I'll poke around , online and see if anything pops up.
Maybe someone else in the forums , has the same unit and an owners manual.
Have you noticed any names on any of the A/C housings , Acme, Evans, Denso or Ford?

I'm not sure if the fan is still running. If I switch from defrost to off, the air just starts to come out of the dash vents instead of the defrost.
On the outside of the A/C housing it says Frigicool in large raised letters.

OK , that's the first step to finding a manual or any repair parts.

Frigicool is gone long ago. SCS Frigette bought them up but have very little in terms of support for this product line.
What I did notice today is that when the MH is not moving and the system is OFF, there is no air flow so it seems to me, the system is defaulting to vent which means my MAX A/C is probably not MAX. Can't find a vacuum line anywhere in the vicinity of the thing. Must have been pinched off and stuffed somewhere behind the firewall.
However, I can manually move the actuator and close the flaps for vent so it will be defaulted to MAX A/C. I think that is a better compromise. Do you agree?

I could be worth a try. But if your current set up gives you , all the correct air flow , when the controls are on , there may be no real benefit.
