We just put a Davis tru trac on our 1998 ford f53 and noticed this shock thing that runs horizontally behind front axel. What is it?

I'm not familiar with that chassis but it sure looks like some sort of steering stabilizer or damper.

The stabilizer should help in returning your tires to track true center if adjusted correctly.
Your Davis will keep your front end stable to your chassis so you do not have to compensate for trucks or buses from pushing you around.
If you had a track bar in rear suspension no one will push you around, it helps the rear end from wagging like a dog.

Have the same thing on my 03 F53, along with rear aftermarket air bags. Really does stablize the rig in wind and of course when meeting those 300 wheeler semis.

I have one of those on my '97 F53. Are you saying that it is NOT OEM?

Unless Ford had as a option when ordering chassis, its a add on by dealer or owner.

We check with the Ford garage and it is a ford part made by motorcraft so I am thinking it came on it from the start. Anyway I ordered a Bilstein one today since I think this one could be worn out. Went out and test drove with the new tru trak bar and hubby said it handle a lot better. Thank god he is able to install all the new upgrades we have made. It is finally starting to be enjoyable to ride in.

My '99 did not come with one although it tracks true and isn't bothered much by wind, I've considered adding something.
Safe T plus and Bilstein look to be the same thing, with a $400 difference. A steering stabilizer is a steering stabilizer, is it not?

If it tracks true, and is'nt bothered by the wind, why bother .
How long is your motorhome, and do you know what your wheelbase is?
