I have read the Ford TSB regarding tire balance and mounting on the 1999/2001 F53 chassis and have noted that it reads that only some vehicles had the problems. As I am needing new tires my question is, how may RVers with the Ford chassis have had balance problems when installing new tires and needed to access the special equipment required by the TSB?
Thanks for your replies,
Brian

I'm finishing up a three year full timing, and my June '99 tires on my '99 chassis must be replaced before I head south in the summer.
I don't know for sure, but one of my wheels/tires has never been able to balance and the spare is hopeless too.
I just hope the rims are good and only the tires are the problem - which will get replaced and hopefully solve the problem.
Ned.

Due to the problems I had when I first got my 1999 F 53 ( they ended up replacing 5 of the 8 wheels as they were out of spec and put on new tires) and the need to have the Haweka tools, when I needed new tires last year, I went back to the Ford truck dealer. They have the equipment and their prices were as good or better than any others I found. I've had no problem with the new tires. Most other tire places probably won't have the Haweka alignment pins and thus the wheels would likely be mounted offcenter resulting in a rough ride.
here's the first part of the TSB
1999-2001 F-53 MOTORHOME
ISSUE:
Some 1999-2001 F-53 Motorhome Chassis vehicles may exhibit tire and wheel-induced vibration concerns under the following conditions:
* Occurs on smooth roads at highway speeds 72-120 km/h (45-75 mph) and is normally sensitive in a specific smaller speed range.
* Felt in the steering wheel or seat/floor.
* Falls in a frequency range of 10-24 Hz when measured on an Electronic Vibration Analyzer (EVA).
ACTION:
Balance all wheel/tire assemblies using the Haweka Flange Plate Adapter Kit (Haweka Part No. 280-400-048) and reinstall wheel/tire assemblies on vehicle using centering pilots provided in the Haweka Kit. Contact Haweka directly for tool ordering information (phone 1-800-242-6687 or 1-704-896-7535).

After you get the front wheels properly centered, I highly recommend replacing front shocks with Koni FSD's, they make all the difference in the ride.

The centering problem only exists with the front wheels, the rear ones are ok, they center properly.

I had the new tires insalled Feb. 12th and also had the wheel bearings serviced and wheel allignment done at that time. With some trepidation after reading about some of the probelms others had experienced I headed for Texas. The new Goodyear G670s have appeared to provide a better ride and control than the G67s that were on the coach and... there was no vibration which had me worried
