Will Not Start with out a Jumper Box.

I have a 2004 E-450 Super Duty Chassis on my Jamboree 26Q. Ford says it's a 2004 year model California Taxifornia says it's a 2005
Went to start it last week. Needed to jump start it. I tried to jump with the emergency start button on the dash, nada. All it did was click. So I got my battery jumper box and it started right up. I cleaned the battery terminals, still clicks, use the jumper box and it turns over slow and then it starts right up.

I was going to get a new battery and go that route but I used my volt meter and it shows that the battery has a 12.9v charge on it.
In my youth I drove a Tow Truck, I think the starter is about to take a dump on me . Anyone else have this problem?

The part that puzzles me most is that I have a solar system and six 6v U2200 Interstate battery's on board. According to the solar control panel they have 13.8 yesterday at 1030hrs. These battery's were put in service in Jul-08 They should do something to make it start.

The Chassis battery is an Interstate Mega-Tron Plus 65 Battery, that's 4 years old. (Aug-08.) The voltage on the chassis battery shows 12.9 not hooked up. (both positive and negative cables removed)

Any ideas?

I realize you have a lot of battery there to turn that thing over, but to count the batteries out for sure, they can be load tested. Voltage is only part of the story.

In my experience that 'click' to which you refer is a low battery condition. That the jumper box started it gives this theory more plausibility.

It's not impossible that it's not the starter, or something in the starter circuit, but load testing the batteries first seems the most reasonable and cost effective first step of diagnosis. If it's too much trouble to take the batteries out to have them load tested, it's possible to pick up a relatively inexpensive load tester. The ones I've seen used seem to work OK.

"12.9v charge on it."

Should have 13.5 at rest.

Huge difference in the world of batteries.

Your ford chassis is a 04 but your rv is a model year 05, so you pay for the 05

The only way to test a battery is under load. Turn on your headlights, wait a few minutes, then check the voltage. Willing to be it will be low.

Here's the legalities on that!
Split year RV's
The 2005 RV was built on a 2004 chassis and must be licensed as per the manufacturers model year which must be a 2005. Nothing amiss there.

Could be a bad connection if it turned over slow with the jumper box too.

I am taking it to a shop where I have had work done on the RV tomorrow and have them do a load test on the battery. Being as the battery is under 4 years old the will warranty it if that's the problem it's either the battery or the cables.

Voltage will probably drop to nothing under starting load, try checking amps as that is what cranks motor. Batteries probably shot.

Howdy,

Just a Idea you might want to not only check the following stated as planned but check your regulator as well... It could also be one bad cell in th battery that could mess it up for all...I had a simar problem with my 2 8-D coach batteries a few years back turns out in the endmy regulator was bad

Went to the shop today.....they did a load test on the battery, guess what it had 2 dead cells in it. (looks good for a 3 year old $179.00 battery) they put a new one in under warranty.

Well, sorry about the expense, but a battery seems easier and cheaper than a new starter.

Thanks for letting us know what it was.
