2005 holiday ambassador alternator
hi all. we have a 2005 holiday ambassador with a cummins isc 8.3l. Previous owner changed the alt. to a delco 28si knock off. The charging system works correctly but would like to replace with the proper leece neville that came on the unit. Contacted REV and they want $1150 for an alternator. I am trying to come up with the correct part number but not having any luck. The alt. is a pad mount and was 160 amps from the factory. Any one with the same set up as mine that could provide a part # would be appreciated

Exactly my thoughts. If it isnt broke, dont fix it. We blew an alternator this winter, and replaced the Leece with a Delco. My mechanic friend doesnt like the Leece alternator. He suggested the switch to Delco. They can be had for several hundred dollars, depending on where you are at the time. You could carry a spare Delco if you feel the need to. You would still be ahead by a large amount of money.

I believe there is a thread I started (last year) on my 06 Ambassador and the alternator. If you can find it the part number should be there. If not, I have my original alternator and the PN for the new one if you want it.
But (as with others) why do you want to replace the one on there now?

I think it is because it is not a real Delco unit, but a clone!

I have been running a 105 amp, small frame, Delco clone on my boat for 4 or 5 years.
It charges a 800 AH battery bank every morning we are underway. 70 to 80 amps steady for 3 or 4 hours. Surprisingly hardy.

Replacement alternator
Thanks everyone for there input. The guy at the starter repair shop said the leece neville is a better unit than the one from China on my coach. I would like to replace it and keep it for a spare.

Personally I would not use that as a justification to replace an alternator. Yes, Leece Neville alternators are excellent products. However if your current alternator is functioning properly I'd see no reason to replace it until it begins to fail. Alternators are generally a high reliability item and are typically good for about 100K miles (often more.)
And a real Leece Neville alternator will cost you significant--they are not cheap!

Replacement alternator
Another reason why I would like.to replace it is because I would like to have a spare so I can keep heading to my destination. I had a flat tire back in November and it cost me $750. Now I carry a spare tire in the basement. If I have it I will probably never need it.

Go to the web sites I referenced and pick up another Delco clone or a real Delco.

Hi Our rig is 2013. It has the Leece Neville 160 amp. The number is LN 110-555PHO. Also part # 8LHP2170VE. It is available all over the net for around $200.00. It does not have the pulley. Just take it off the existing alternator and install it on the new one. Stan

Thank you for the info. I was going to order the same one that you have and I found that in 2007 they started using a.110- 912 which is supposed to withstand heat a little better.
