99 42' Monaco Executive w/tag axle info needed!

99 42' Monaco Executive w/tag axle info needed!

We need everybodies input on the strengths and weaknesses of the following. Your input will help us make this purchasing decision.

We're thinking about buying a 99 42' Executive w/tag axle next week. We currently own a 38' DutchStar DP on a Spartan w/300 Cummins that we love and bought sight unseen on ebay. We're do-it-yourselfers whenever possible We've been shopping Monaco/HR on the internet for a long time. We realize the Executive is no Dynasty or Signature, but it is more affordable The one I'm airlining to look at this week is on a Roadmaster 10 bag/shock chassis w/tag, non-AquaHot, 50000btu Surburban furnace, 450 ISM Cummins w/88,000 miles, 4000 Allison, 2 - 15000btu Domentic(sp?) roof airs/heat pumps, Michelins w/pms, 10000kw Onan diesel gen. on elec slide. I'm not sure what it is called, but there is a switch on the dashboard to release and/or raise the tag axle. It comes w/all the books and various receipts. It is a consigned unit, but I'll be able to talk to the current long time owner.

Thanks in advance

The Executive is actually sandwiched below the Signature and above the Dynasty. You are looking at the top of the Monaco food chain, so to speak.

You may get more comments is you also post on the Manufacturers Forum, Monaco Owners. Some owners don't read the Roadmaster Chassis forum that often.

The switch to which you refer does exactly what you state. By activating the switch you are effectively releasing or dumping the air out of the air bag that controls the tag (you should hear a steady "beep" "beep" "beep"....) while activated (raised). Pressing the switch the other direction fills the air bag and lowers the tag with a set pressure. There is likely a regulator to adjust the amount of pressure maintained in the tag. It is generally on the engine, driver side. If you google "tag axel adendum" you should come up with a document from Monaco for its 2001 Executive & Dynasty that will help you. The regulator adjustment allows you to change he weight distribution between the axels ie by increasing the pressure (there is a guage on the regulator) you add more weight to the tag and take away from the drive. This should be done in conjunction with a proper 6 corner weigh. Good luck on your purchase.
