Air Auto Leveling System, Aux Pump

My MH has the all air auto leveling system without hydraulic jacks. The system has a small auxiliary air compressor to maintain the air pressure when the engine is off. On my system, the aux pump runs every few minutes for a few seconds. I replaced the pressure regulator sensor used to signal the pump when to come on and the problem is still there. I think the main air system is okay as it takes more than a day to bleed down.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

You have a leak. Mix some soapy water, 50% dawn dishwasher soap and 50% water in a spray bottle. Spray all fittings till you find the leak. Also spray air bags if you don't find a leak in a fitting. Could be a ride height valve that is leaking. Doesn't take much to lower the pressure so the aux pump comes on.

The problem was not a leak. The pressure sensor was installed in the line from the air tank to the compressor. Given that line has a check valve at the tank, that's the wrong place for the pressure sensor switch. I moved it and it works perfectly. I assume it was wrong from day one and the original owner just put up with it. It you have a Beaver, you might want to take a look at yours.

Jim, on my Contessa the air pressure sensor was plumbed into the same hose that went from the storage tank to the air compressor. It was actually on a T attached to the pump. The problem is the air fitting on the storage tank going to the air compressor has it check valve so air can flow from the storage tank to the air compressor. This check valve is not the problem as you should have one that prevents air from leaving the storage tank through the air compressor. Air compressors will generally leak down. So, I put a T on the storage tank that connects directly to the air pressure sensor switch. The air compressor is now the only thing connected to this check valve--there are others. Except when airing the system up without the engine running, I've yet to hear the air compressor cycle, but I haven't tried it over multiple days yet.

This may be a wide spread installation error. FWIW, I just spent 9 days at one site and only heard the air compressor cycle 3 times. It may have done so more often, but on 3 times I heard. I have discovered that when it runs, it runs for a good minute; maybe a bit longer. This is longer running than when it ran before, but at least it's not running every few minutes to an hour. BTW, it should run for a longer period when the sensor is in the right location. The sensor turns the compressor on at 90psi and off at 120psi, so it will take more than a while to raise the pressure the required 30psi.
