I have always had brake problems with my unit(2002 HR Neptune)I had all 4 wheels repaired at the dealer, and ea time it took 3 on 4 weeks to get capaliters.2 weeks ago the left front stuck a little.(this time my air and temp. sensors saved me major damage)The problem is once again we can not get the parts.Napa does not have a number to cross ref. Monaco did not have a part number on it.The mfg.is listed but must have a part number. After a lot of calling by my Dealer they found some but will still take another week.Queston is does every one have this problem with Roadmaster or am I going about this wrong.Another thing who made this frame. I ask because I have had not one problem with the coach part.,And yes I replaced the truck arms (they were not broke or cracked but I replaced them any how) Thanks fo any feed back.
Bill

The axles and brake assemblies used by Roadmaster are not made by Roadmaster and are also used on a lot of trucks and parts are readily available. On the front axle I beam in the middle and on the rear axle front sides are tags that tell you who made the axle and the part number of the axle. Whoever is repairing your MH should know this and these part numbers will point them in the right direction in getting parts.

Your front axle is probably either a Dana Spicer or a Westport axle. Check the tags and see. These axles come to Roadmaster as a complete assemble that includes the brakes and steering gear.

Thanks Mike.I will look in the location you gave.Don't know why the Dealer supply did not know this.as I said we did find the part and I will make sure I have all the numbers that I need if it happens again.Do you know if this is a big problem for these units or could my dealer doing something wrong.
Thanks Again---Warm Fires---Cold Drinks-------Bill

I don't hear about too many problems with the brakes or steering on Roadmaster Chassis. The only way that the steering compnents can wear is not to grease the fittings every 10,000 miles. The brakes last forever. I don't know why you are having the problems.

There was a guy on 419 Diesel Pushers site that replaced his brake calipers(Bosh) with Bendix(bigger pistons) and hasn't had anymore problems and they stop better.. I don't know any details.. I don't know him personally, but sounds like that is one way to fix them.. Was your coach on the brake recall??

I was told that the first time they were fixed 2 1/2 years ago the recall was taken care of,and they changed the size of the caplerters. It is now the 4th week again and still no part.I told the rep. a my dealer ,and got a it is a old rv and they could not get parts.(Its a lot of bull when they sale it that part are easy to get.)By the way ,the dealer is Bill Pelmmons in NC.I think I will change their name to BILL LEMONS RV.One thing for sure ,my next RV will be from some place else.
Thanks fore the reply Bill

First of all, do yourself a favor and tow it far away from Bill Plemmons. There lies your problem. They will tell you it's old and all motor homes over three years old are garbage, and that it will be impossible to fix. (unless they have it on the lot) Then they will go on a tyrant about how Monaco is a bad company and how they got stiffed when they went bankrupt. (which may be true). Once they are done hating on Monaco, they will try and sell you something other than what you have, or get you do frustrated with your coach that you will want to trade it.

They are prejudice, racist, ignorant, and have zero knowledge in any of the main areas including service, parts and sales (at least here in Raleigh), and that seems to be the case from what Mike is confirming with you.

The brakes are pretty bulletproof on these coaches, but don't ever have your Roadmaster serviced here.

Sorry about your experience, but you're one of many people I know that have had TERRIBLE experiences with these crooks.

I do most all of my own service work, but I'm sure others can recommend a reputable dealer. Do you live in Raleigh or in Statesville? There is a Camping World there. I don't know about their service but I have a close friend who is in Sales there and he's a full time RV'er with a 45' CC, so he speaks our language.

As for my brakes, I've only owned my coach for a few months. When I first got it, the brakes were hard to depress, but it had been sitting for six months. After a 2400 mile journey, (and a close inspection) they are smooth as butter. I suspect a little siezed from sitting. I had the brakes inspected and rotated the tires at the same time. It's just something I couldn't do and wanted a physical inspection. Piedmont truck and tire did it here in Raleigh and they were top notch. They walked me through the brakes as well and treated me like a first class citizen.

Regarding the brakes, not the dealer, our 2001 Ambassador had the recall done in early 2002, but it was done poorly. We had about 1 year of troubles with the ABS sensors and wheel bearing issues. We had to replace all rear wheel bearings from not being tightened properly and there were parts missing in the front bearings (washers). Once straightened out, It was fine. We did, however have one of the front replacement calipers freeze up in 2006, so they can go bad. Both fronts were replaced by casting number at an O'reillys with rebuilt calipers that lasted fine until sold in 2010. Hope this may help. Happy Trails Bert

Thanks for all the feed back,I should have up dated sooner, but wamted to test out work first. We tryed to find out imfo from stamp on front and was told it was sold without cap. and my ex. dealer was the problem in getting the order ,this was my mistake, not the shop I was having work done.JD Truck is Salisbury did the work and had it ready 2 hours after they got the part,Ken also noticed my dash air was not up to stuff and fixed it at same time. They were very reasonal on labor rates.I will use them again going foward, just use a better supplyer. He also stated that my TST saved me a lot by alerting me of problem.
Thanks Again Bill
