At times I get a flashing image of a Battery and the tach flips 500 rpm, I am wondering what this is indicating. The charging gauge is running 14 volts.

Somebody else may know better, but I think that your tach gets its info from the alternator. I think the problem you are having means that your alternator needs to be serviced.

Interesting that the problem is not constant. Normally if an alternator is bad then it is consistanly bad. I would check the cable off the alternator for tightness. Becareful if you use a wrench that you don't short it out. Also make sure you do NOT turn the whole stud off the alternator and just tighten the nut. If those are all tight then it might be a good idea to find an alternator/starter rebuild shop in the area and take the alternator in and have it checked on their tester. The fact that it is so intermittent means to me that something is loose.

Thanks guys, I will have to find a shop to do this but now I have an idea of what it is. To old with arthuritis to do it my self. and that sucks after doing that kind of things for years.

Electrical connection issue, possibly a ground since those are the most common "issues"
