Rear and front Axle seal number Roadmaster Cayman 2003 - Info

Long story, after one year and 3 seals replacement on the rear Axle, I did some research and finaly found out the seal number. I phoned Spicer and they gave me number W20HH100, no substitue... I got it, opened the box and guess what, it is a CR 35000. Why the hell they don't give this number instead cause the Spicer number is not found by the shops.

The shop will install it tomorow with a wear or speedy sleeve, they think the shaft is worn. They did not see that the last 3 times I got it replaced, oh well, now the bill is on them

That seal is also used on Workhorse 20 and 22.

Now here the info. for the front Axle

Bearing outer small 25877 PEER China
Bearing inner Big JM207049A Timken
WEBB Hub 2550
Seal Original 308-0866 Stemco, was replaced with 370150A National Seal

This a trick most manufacturers do so you have to buy parts from them.

Most bearings and seals are common with multiple venders. Once you have the PN you can alternate source but getting the first part number is the trick unless you ware willing to wait after taking the part off.

You could have requested to see the old part when it was removed the first time and probably would have seen the PN. Good practice anyway as it confirms what has been replaced.

If this is the 3rd time the leak developed there is definitely a problem.

I had a transmission seal failure on my Class C, which was on a Ford Chassis. When my mechanic got the new seal there was a Technical Service Bulletin in the box stating that the original seal was not meant for Heavy Duty Truck Application >>> Duh! Not covered under warranty as with 4 other major chassis problems I had. Ford Six-Sigma NOT!!!

They install a Timken stainless steel Speedy Sleeve 99350, shaft 3.5. They also replaced the bearings and cup on one side.

Hope everything is ok for the rest of it's life!

Bearings and cone:
Cup NTN33462
Bearing NTN 39585
Cup NTN39520
Cone 33287TIM

Without seeing your seal, I don't know if this applies, but some seals are a seal in a seal, meaning they seal internally.

We used them over the years and the instructions said to remove and discard the wear ring for them to fit properly. Some guys found out the hard way. The forced them on and they leaked.

Hopefully not your problem.

The seal they installed is not a unitize seal. So I guess it will fit. I got the MH today, and I think it's still leaking after 5 times replacement, I will check more in the days to come. This is getting crazy.

This is the seal

Did you actually see the hub with the wear ring off ?

Could they have cut a grove in it while removing the old one ?

Can you crossover to a unititze type seal.

Update

Ok, here is an update. When I got home, I noticed some trace of oil on the brake Galipers and some inside the wheels. I went for another ride, got the brakes to warm up a bit more just to test it good and saw some oil fumes out of the wheel. I went back home and I cleaned it up real good and went for about 100 miles around town.

No more leak, no trace anymore. What I think is that they did not clean the disc properly and there was still oil in the cooling fins. Now that all the oil has flown out of the disc, no more oil gets out of it.

I hope my seal saga is over.

Now, I had a water leak on the windshield, went back to where they installed the windshield last year and they got some silicone inside the rubber. Hope this will last also.
