SCANGAUGE 1999 Monaco Signature Tag

Just purchased the ScanGauge D and on installation, I have VOLTAGE only.
No other communication at the J1708 below the dash.
I do not see another J1708 outlet in the engine bay on my Roadmaster RR10S Chassis?
Any suggestions to narrow down the problem?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

There may be a OBD/Cig. lighter fuse in the forward run bay that needs to be replaced.

Have you looked at the "Trouble Shooting" portion of the manual? Are you getting the "Connecting" message or is it going to sleep?

If all else fails, they have good customer support at 888-433-5664.

On page 59 of the manual, it says to start the engine to see if that establishes a connection. If it still doesn't communicate with the ECM, the use MORE>MORE>CHANGE and try selecting a specific mode. If that doesn't work, then you likely have a cable/connection issue.. . so try plugging the small connector to the other port and ensure that you have a good connection to the motorhome ECM port.

Still no communication after removing dash connection and cleaning with contact cleaner.
Also removed the connection at the engine, (looked OK) but I cleaned it with contact cleaner and brushed with toothbrush, 3 times. No connection on ScanGauge.

I will check for another connection in the wire harness under the drivers area. The wire loom appears to drop thru the firewall there.

Another question? There are two J1708 receptacles under the drivers dash on the left side. One gives a 12.8v reading on the ScanGauge, and the other receptacle is dead. Why are there Two??????

Check to see if you have a second ODBI connector in the engine bay. My HR Ambassador has one there too so mechanics can scan and work with the engine at the same time.

I bought a ScanGauge D last year. I had the same problem. I called ScanGauge D people and told me to try the rear engine plug. It's in the engine compartment and it did work. They told me to run a Ethernet cable to the front of the coach or return it for a refund. I bought a 75 foot Ethernet cable and ran it through the bays to the driver's area and connected to the ScanGauge D and works like it should.

Thanks for that tip on running an Ethernet cable for an extension, Bob.
I can not find a J1708 protocal connection in my engine bay.
Was you plug unit installed for access from the rear access, or was it buried in the engine bay somewhere? You probably have the newer J1939 on yours?

I have removed and cleaned the connection on the forward side of the ECU with no results.

Mine is not buried but mounted so it is easily accessible. We have a rear bath, so the engine is accessible through a trap door in the bath and the connector is on the curb side towards the front of the coach.

IIRC, the connector protocol (hardware) is simple: a data pair and a power pair.

I may have schematics (general) if you are interested.

Thanks. I will search again, but my unit does not appear to have an outlet in the engine bay. I will be looking for another possible bad connection between rear and front. Waiting on the weather to dry up. Will report findings.
