has any noticed the difference of air out height of rr8r chassis some are noticebly lower than others. i've seen others the same model and year as ours and yet be up to 3 inches lower with the air out.seems to me when the h frame bottoms out thats it. the only reason i ask this is when on a super level site its nice to get the step as low as you can. jim

Jim,

I know on our Diplomat it takes a long time to dump all the air out of the bags. It took me awhile to learn to wait long enough before deploying the hydraulic jacks. The more air in the bags when the jacks set down the higher the coach will be when the auto leveler decides the motorhome is level. When we first purchased our coach we purchased one of those steps from Camping World to place below the coach steps because the wife said it was to far to the ground. We quickly learned we did not need that additional step if we waited for the bags to dump. It takes about 2 minuets before you hear the bags set down on the stops. When I feel that slight bump I then start the auto leveler.

P.S. One other thing to consider is that the ride height adjustments from coach to coach could be off by that much. That would affect the coach height while the bags were full. I know these RR8R chassis are very sensitive to ride height.

nodine, thanks but what i'm talking about is when the air is totally out you will find differences in that final settle height, no jacks involved. jim

I just added air leveling to my 01 Diplomat. When I dump air now the coach settles lower than it ever did before. Don't know why.

Rex,

I also would be interested in hearing about the upgrade to air leveling and where you had it done. What was involved and cost.

Does seem strange that the same model would have different air dump heights. I don't have a clue.

OK - you asked, so here are the details on my air leveling addition.

My coach came with a 3-point jack leveling system. I purchased a new HWH air leveling kit from Monaco and installed it myself. I got a very good price as two other friends also wanted the same system. Monaco had these systems as surplus as they were using a different supplier. We negotiated for several weeks and struck a deal.

Took me about 3-weeks but I only worked a few hours each day. Lots of planning and looking before starting to hang the parts. First there is a compressor that is part of the system and is used to maintain the level when the coach is parked. Then there are air manifolds needed front and rear. Mounts had to be made and mounted to the frame for all of these. Then there was the problem of running the cabling from front to rear and into the driver’s area. Also I had to decide how to power the system and where fuses would be placed. I think it turned out well and I am very happy with it. It is nice to have both the air leveling and jacks so if a site is so unlevel that the air system will not do the job then the jacks most likely will.
