Jim

I have a 2003 Monaco Camelot 38PST with 20,000 miles purchased used 4/2009. I have looked through all of the the manuals and production paperwork that came along with this coach and cannot find any specific model or type for the chassis other than the name Roadmaster itself. Can you tell me where to look further to identify if this chassis falls within this "at risk" group, or do you know just by make and year of production. The production dates for this coach was actually in May 2002.

Looking underneath at the rear air bag supports it appears the construction configuration is different then the suspect trailing arms. The air bags on my coach are mounted on a cross member that appears to be well supported by the frame and do not run for and aft as I gather from the discussion is the case with the trailing arms that are failing. Do you know if I am correct in this preliminary observation that this Roadmaster chassis is not part of this "at risk" group? Thanks for all your work on this and bringing this problem...and solution to all of us.

Jerry

The specs on the Monaco Web Site Archive for a 2003 Camelot show an 8 bag outboard system. If you look underneath and count the airbags there should be eight, four each both front and rear.

The RR4R Chassis had only 4 total, two front, two rear. I think you are fine.

Maybe...maybe not. Don't know if I have the infamous RR4R Chassis, but I only have 4 air bags under my coach...unless someone took the other 4 off the coach after it left the factory, or they are hiding in a place I haven't looked yet. Do the trailing arms that are cracking run for and aft, and attach at each end with bushings? My air bags are mounted on a cross member that runs parallel with the axle.

The Trailing arms that are cracking and/or breaking on the RR4R Chassis run fore and aft. The rear is attached to the air bag, the center is bolted to the axle by a flat plate and U-bolts and the front is attached to the shock. Hope this helps. Look at the picture, and you can imagine the configuration of the trailing arm in relation to the suspension.

Monaco38...I think you might not have looked thoroughly enough for all your bags. You might see from this link where you should find the other 4 missing bags. You can check the specs of the 2003 Camelot or even the 2002 Windsor specs to see both rigs came with the RR8 chassis.

Here's a link to your coach's brochure which says it's an eight-bag chassis.

From the day they shipped until I received them it was 5 working days, 7 total, including weekend. That was from Oregon to Melbourne Beach, Florida, about 1,800 miles further than you are from them. If they have them in stock and can get them out today or tomorrow, it will still be next week before you get them.

Call Scott at Source Engineering, tell him I asked you to call, see if he has a faster way to ship and if he has them in stock. They are going out the door as fast as they can make them.

Mike, you are an Attorney, if they file Chapter 7, they are off the hook financially. I assume that a suit could be filed personally against the Managers if they knew and did nothing, could be a personal liability for a major safety issue. It would only probably apply for personal injury, not product damage.

Thanks again for your assistance - freight goes astronomical ! for anything quicker (he thought $1100 !!!!)
asked Scott about track bar - told you mine had been welded - he thought okay for temp fix, but doesn't have an idea where to find replacement - wondering if anyone else has had such a problem.... or if anyone would have an idea of where to look ???
(What a guy that Scott - he was going to try to track down the specs to see what he could do ..)

gmgr,
Give this guy a call. He is a former Monaco tech that opened his own business. He was one of the service vendors at the Ramblin Pusher Maintenance Session this past May. I believe he will be able to help identify and or locate the trac bar. Hope this helps.

Thanks MM and Dave. I looked at the links and then crawled back under the coach and found the other 4 air bags hiding in plain sight right were the diagrams showed them to be. It helps to know where to look!! All of which now confirms I have the RR8 chassis and am not at risk for this trailing arm cracking problem. Thanks everyone for the great information.
