We don't have a SXS. We have a sand car, and a couple of ATC70's. I have an ATC70 that has a 150cc motor in it, and it hauls the mail faster than you'd ever think. We make it to Glamis once in a while, but our favorite, due to distance, is Hot Wells Dunes, just north of Bowie AZ. It's about 2 hours from our house.

My buddy goes every year, and in fact just got back last week. I just reviewed his photos from last year and I would say it's about 50/50 those that have them and those that don't. So I am assuming they aren't required. Having said that, I've been riding for over 30 years, and there's no way I would get out there without at least one flag.

Great thread! I really want to take my pioneer 500 to Hatfield McCoy but my riding buddies do the cabin thing, they have 5 th wheels and getting the buggies and campers down seems to be too much for em So when I ask about decent camping (where the wife can stay if she does not want to ride that day) I get shrugs...I want to find a nice campground where I can ride into the trails and would like to find more people to ride with that camp.

I don't know of many places that allow out of state residents to ride on a road. Here in Indiana it goes by county, some really rural counties allow us to ride on county roads, others don't. Out of state residents cannot get a tag for state riding areas that allow road use (tag acts like a license plates). With that said you could look at a Joyner buggy or a similar oreion reaper type of machine that uses license plates. Cheaper than a lot of RZR's but are road legal in all 50 States if you get it plated in your home state.

Another Okie
We too sxs and atv whilst boondocking, and haul a 2016 High Lifter Edition RZR 1000 that has been converted into a trail riding machine ( revalved shocks, tires and wheels, etc), 2015 Ranger 900 xp, with 3" lift, and Sportsman 500 quad for backup. So I guess you could say we got hooked also, as we have been going to Colorado for the past 4yrs, going to Lake City, Silverton (both on the Alpine Loop) which by the way, atv's are allowed on the city streets in both towns so it is now truly a loop. Also another GREAT place is Taylor Lake/Park north of Gunnison. TP has lots of boondocking locations. We have been up to Missoula Mt. and found a couple of riding areas, but are looking for more places there. Another state we would like to try is Idaho and we want to try Paiute Trail in Utah, but feel we need someone to somewhat guide us the first time so as to plan out gas stops and resupply places. We would like to try Hatfield/McCoy, but in cooler weather months. We are located in SW Ok.
