Wayne,
I've been wanting to upgrade my Xti up to the T2i just because of the movie mode to try and make some Planrtary images.
Your rig in between those big rigs is pretty awsome.
If dogs could only talk, I'm sure they would let us know where to go next

Paula,
Check this site out for some good information on cameras.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the pixel race, like sknight said it depends on how big you want to blow the picture up.
I've seen plenty of good pictures with just the small pocket type cameras that they are making today.

What do you think would be the least amount of pixels-perhaps the 'least' camera needed to get pictures anywhere close to those?
I'm not talking about talent. Each of you has more talent with a camera than I would ever hope to have, but I would love to document our lives now that we are fulltimers and I'm wondering what a good, affordable choice would be. Any suggestions?
Right now I have a Cannon powershot 6 mega pixels.
Our daughter is a professional photographer. I love the view thru a camera.

I think the main thing to remember about cameras if you're going to go bigger than a point-and-shoot is stabilization in the body. I have a Canon Powershot that is 6 years old and takes really nice pictures. I wanted to be able to have interchangeable lenses so I got a Canon 40D 2 years ago. The stabilization is in the lenses for Canon. My husband bought a Sony A700 shortly after my Canon 40D; the stabilization is in the body itself. If you have any trouble handholding a shot or you just don't happen to have a tripod with you at that special moment, stabilization in the body is the way to go. Pentax also is body stabilized.
I am limited to one lens that is image stabilized with my 40D; hubby can purchase any lens he wants, regardless of brand, as long as it has the Sony mount.
I agree with the poster who said that it's not the number of pixels that matters. The pixel race is way overrated.

For image stabilization in the smaller line cameras, take a look at the Panasonic DMC FZ-20 or LX7. Those are the older versions, but what I understand, Panasonic was the first out with Optical Image Stabilization. (but what do I know - nothing when it comes to photography except point and shoot)

Well Wayne,
You know more than I do. I didn't know that about Panasonic. I'm going to look into that. Thanks for the info.

Saw this odd looking tree trunk at Mount Pisgah Campground.
Couldn't resist taking a picture. I have passed by this tree for many years but never saw anything unusual about it until this year

Lorraine,
I think more specifically, Panasonic invented the MEGA O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer) for still photography. OIS by itself was used in some earlier binoculars, and video cameras. (Again, what do I know.)
I'm still trying to figure out all the combinations of photo shooting on the T2i. I'm basically using "P" and "Tv" mode, with Tv set to 800 ISO. It helps when DW is taking the pictures out the side window.

The Palo Duro Canyon looks like it would be a good place to do some stargazing
Where were the other pictures taken? The fog on the water looks like some of our cold winter days on the lake here in florida.
Nice pictures and thanks for sharing,
Ron

Those pictures were taken in Branson, Mo. at Lilly's Landing about two weeks ago. Very HOT in the daytime! And yes you can do some very good observing in Palo Duro Canyon. B.T.W., it's a state park.

Your pic of "McKinney Texas from the roof tops on a winter afternoon" looks like you are looking through a 1800's wooden stereoscope picture viewer. kinda 3-D looking.
