Nice pictures, looks like you caught those Elk just right.
We came through there this summer, beautiful country.
Thanks for sharing,
Ron

A couple of pics from AZ
Thought I would share a couple of pictures from our trip to Monument Valley and Page Az. This was our first visit to Monument Valley and Antelope Canyon.

Nice pics. Is the second one a "slot canyon?" If so, did you hike down into it? I watched an episode of Art Wolfe's Travel to the Edge last night; he hiked along several slot canyons, photographing all the way. Sometimes they were so narrow, that his camera bag barely fit! BTW, I recommend this show to anyone interested in travel photography. It is produced by a public station in Oregon and we view it on an alternate public broadcasting service here in Ok.

It was a guided tour by the Navajo Antelope Canyon: slot canyon near Page/Lake Powell, Arizona
I took a lot of pictures but most of them were blury because I'm not very good at hand holding a slow shutter
I'll work on an album to post later.

Monument Valley & Antelope Canyon
A great place to visit with plenty of photo ops.

I wish I could have spent more time there and shot from a tripod, but time was limited and all shots are hand held. But that's my method, P & S on the run

I love your photos of the slot canyon. I think that such canyons are beautiful and interesting from a geological point of view. You really captured all the swirling of the stratas in these pictures.
I still wish I had an in-the-camera stabilization instead of Canon's stabilized lenses. I have one such lens and it's far to expensive to invest further in them. I'm learning to use hubby's Sony A700 which is stabilized in the camera body.
Nothing wrong with p & s; our best photos of our sweet schnauzer girl Molly who went to the Bridge in 2007 were shot with a Canon p & s. Tripods are a pain in the butt, but people who look at my photos continuously tell me to use one more often. I hate lugging it around, and watching it every second that someone doesn't trip on it and dump it and my camera.

Thanks sky_watcher,
Any kind of stabilization would have been a great help in those Slot Canyons. They warn you ahead of time not to use flash because it ruins the beauty of the color, as you can see by this picture when the flash is used.
They also have a tour just for Photographers but it is quite expensive.
Thanks goodness for digital, out of 100 shots I only had 15 keepers. Anyone with a steady hand would have had a lot more keepers. I have trouble even at 1/60 of a sec.
Ron

Boy, it really loses its beauty with the flash doesn't it?
I'm not that steady either. That's why I keep trying to learn our Sony. Maybe someday!

Sun Halo's in FL
Sun Halo's in Florida are rare, at least for me they are, and even harder for me to photograph
This one almost didn't fit in my 18mm lens setting. I tried several different settings but had my best image using 1600 iso on programmed mode.
Any suggestions on shooting these would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron

Can I play too?
I don't take photos like I used to. 25 years ago I'd lug around a backpack full of lenses and filters. Haven't touched it in years. Now it's a simple Sony digital point and shoot, and an older one at that. These are just some I happened to have on this computer. The vast majority of my photos are prints, in a couple dozen albums representing a couple dozen years of exploring.
One shot was actually taken by my wife, of me and the dogs enjoying an Appilacian mountain view. Another is of a Smokey mountain stream, near Gatlinburg. Lastly, just something taken in the woods of northern Wisconsin.

Jay,
I will never be more than point and shoot, but what a great way to record our history of events and special occasions
Some of my fondest memories are the camping trips in the Appilacians along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Thanks for sharing,
Ron

Don't get a chance to see much of this in Florida but it does happen. I think this is called Jack Frost
This is just plain frost on our truck window
This is the first time I have ever tried any of these, I wish I had a good close up lens for my Canon Xti. These were taken with just the close up setting with standard lens.
Ron
