It's also a very expensive hobby. Once you get beyond micros a simple crash and cost hundreds of dollars and hours of rebuilding. A bad crash can mean rotor blades, servos, main masts, tail boom, spindle and a flybar which would be close to $500 and about 3 hours of repair. If you were trying hard to progress you would most certainly crash every time out which is why I ran two identical Hirobo EVO 50 nitro helis which I would put in the dirt almost every weekend and have ready to do it all over again the next weekend. But I could hover upside down and trim the grass and I wasn't nearly as talented as the guys I flew with

I guess that's some of the reasons I'm sticking with ultra micro airplanes.

I slammed my little P-51 hard into the ground over the weekend and the only thing it did was knock the battery out. Took a while to locate it. It was a good thing that I was flying over grass though

While I was really into the hobby I tried a couple of 3D foamy planes and even built up a 3D 50 size nitro powered Twister. That thing was pretty fast!
In this photo I have my 70 size Vario scale Bell 47-D which I still have
A 90 size Fury which was a friggin beast!
An Align Trex 450SE that I had set up for full 3D
And the Twins, identical Hirobo EVO 50's
Below was the 3D nitro Twister.

What you see in this photo represents over $9k in toys! I'm really glad I got out of that ridiculosly expensive and very addicting hobby!

Don,

Nice looking collection. Do you have any videos of you flying?

I thought my hanger of planes was getting a little out of control with 16 various models of micros. I'm glad they are all micros though, cost wise, I'm only up to about $2000.00

I only wish Horizon Hobby RC would stop coming out with so many new models

Don't do this with your um micro J-3 Cub

These little guys are very durable though, no damage, if you fly over grass

Would you believe I have been flying this Cub for almost a year and have never done this until this past weekend.

Looks like I have never flown a plane before

I don't have any of me flying the RC helis but on this think the bottom two videos are of my flying a Robinson R-22. There's also a bunch of me and my friends flying around on our bikes

WOW,

That thing sure is a way out of my league. I sure like your table cloth though since I'm into Astronomy

I browsed through some of your videos on the bikes, you weren't exceeding the speed limit were you

I got a little dizzy just watching the videos

Ron

RC helis is an adrenalin blast to be sure. You have to love mechanics to step into that hobby since you have to build them and fine tune every aspect of the mechanical interconnects in order to get them to fly. The radio is another item that has an almost infinite amount of variables that need to be set and adjusted. Not only are you controlling four servos at one time while flying, you also have at least two switches that you need to activate when taking off and landing. I'm a rated recreational helicopter pilot so I'm naturally drawn to these things. Getting out of it was tough but I only got into it while I was off the bike for a year due to a back injury, once I was healthy again the motorcycling took first priority.

Motorcycling is actually a lot cheaper

Thought I would bring you up to date on my flying experience with my um T-28. I have really been enjoying flying the um T-28 and I think it is becoming my favorite RC micro airplane

I can fly it a little slower than my other aileron planes, therefore I seem to be able to keep up with it a little better than I can with the faster ones.

This morning I tried for the first time adding a little down elevator when I make my rolls and was surprised at how easy it went, and made my first roll from level flight

I know this is no biggy for you that have a lot of flying experience, but I have always played it safe when doing a roll, and made sure the plane was climbing before I started my rolls.

Since I'm a newbie, and I probably will always be since I'm a slow learner and my brain and thumbs don't seem to work together, I'm always afraid to try some new maneuvers

This little um T-28 seems to handle a lot more wind than all of my other micros. Most of the time I wouldn't even attempt to fly in any kind of breeze at all, but this little micro flys pretty well in a light 3-5 mph breeze

Ron

I am getting out of RC flying after 22 years of flying. I miss it but due to some health problems and other interest I have decided to quit RC. I have run a for sale locally. I want to sell everything even the table I built my planes on. I got offers for one or two but nobody wants them all. I have put in the ad that I can not ship and Have got several wanting me to ship. The smallest plane got a 72 inch wing.

Sorry to hear you are leaving the hobby

I just got started, but doubt I will ever reach 20 years, I would only be 93

Good luck with selling your airplanes, looks like a mighty nice fleet of airplanes.

Ron
