I have been brewing my own beer for over ten years now. Wondering if anyone here does to?
It has gone from some basic equipment and cans of malt extract to a $3500 all grain twenty gallon system DW bought me for Christmas/birthday a few years ago. Birthday is 12/26
It seems that with homebrewing there is a fine line between hobby and mental illness.

Homebrewed for many years and now don't. I brewed stouts and porters. Never did any light colored beers.

Some beer, but more wine than anything else. I have a collection in my wine cellar of about 100 bottles from 2003 to 2009 and I seldom drink the stuff. DW and my friends like it. I experiment with different fruits. My best so far, according to DW is muscadine.

My favorite was an Imperial Stout...11.5% alcohol. From the time I brewed it, it was a year until it was ready to drink. That would definately give you a kick in the....can.

I can relate to the Fine line. My brother and my boss are both brewers. They lean to the Mental Illness side. Although they both make good beer.

I love the Stouts even in the middle of summer. My favorites are English and Belgian styles. For some reason I don't care much for German beers except wheats. I have an nice Dunkelweizen ready to keg right now.
When we vacation in the MO I take soda kegs, CO2 and a jockey box (cold plate in a cooler with a tap) with me. DW rolls her eyes at me but is used to dragging the homebrew along.
If anyone needs info on homebrewing got to The Northern Brewer Homebrew Forum • Index page you will find me there with the same name as here and I am a moderator there. Good bunch of folks like here too.

I was a member of the Foam Rangers Brew club in Houston for a bunch of years. A bunch of "hop heads" can't be bad folks.

I am not exactly a homne brewer, but we go to a local brew-it-yourself outfit often. The 52 different recipes they have are all outstanding. Just finished a Highlander Scotch Ale.
We get a free 16 gallon keg after every 6 kegs we make and over the past 5 years, we have had 4 free kegs and are close to the 5th. We much prefer the "homemade" beer over the store bought and really appreciate the DARK, unbitter beers. David's Black Bavarien is probably the best in our list.
We go to a place called Vine Park Brewery. Their flavors are all listed on their website Vine Park Brewing Company, St. Paul, MN
Not much better in life than a good hand made brew.

I'm of the rinky dink Mr. Beer crowd, never have got past that to real home-brewing methods.

You would be surprised how many homebrewers got started with a Mr Beer Ray. I am one of them. You can make better beer than what you get from a Mr Beer without really getting too carried away. A lot of the stuff is already in the kitchen.
