I'm a fairly recent but avid Birder and wondered if there were many other RV/Birding enthusiasts.

We are getting ready to retire? and go full time RV'ing beginning this Fall for at least a few years.

We plan to be around Tempe getting aquainted with our new grandson for the rest of 2011. It was in Tucson where we lived for a year and a half that I caught the bird bug in 2006.

Next year we'll head slowly across the Gulf Coast exploring all new frontiers including during the Spring migration particularly in Texas. I have never birded the East at all so there are many new lifers to be experienced.

Very excited to be full timing it while birding a lot more than I have while working.

Are there others with the Bug willing to share your experience?

Hi David. My wife is an avid birder and I'm more of a SOB...spouse of a birder. But I'm learning. We've done the spring neo-tropical migration through Texas the last two years. Have you ever observed well over a hundred Indigo Buntings with several dozen Painted Buntings thrown in for a little extra color? We watched the Whooping Cranes with their young hunt for crabs less than 50 yards away.

Stay in touch and we can give you some good ideas on south Texas birding locations for next spring.

I am not a birder but my brother is--I think you will find that most destination type RV resorts probably have a birder club or organization. Also the Audobon Society has offices and has information about birding in local areas.

My brother and I visited the one in Tucson when he visited there. We spent two days looking for some kind of hawk that had been seen in the Tucson area----he checked in there to get current info on sightings.

Coincidently Rincon Country West RV Resort in Tucson where we spend most of the winter has a very active birding organization--among many other things going on.

You will not find the slightest problem finding birding enthusiast where ever you go. Good Luck and good birding------

Never heard that expression...
I guess my Wife's the SOB on our crew. Although I'd never tell that to her face!
Both Indigo and Painted Buntings would be lifers for me. Of the Buntings, I think I only have Lasuli (fairly common in the Spring in the Okanagan) on my life list.
A fall out in Texas next Spring would be perfect although I know you can never count on it.
One can only hope!

Pretty excited about the possibilities.
Will keep in touch.
All the Best,

Hi David, Like yourself my wife and I are avid birders and have just retired. To celabrate we took ourselves and our 5er to the Gulf Coast of Texas this past February. Corpus Christi, Port Aransas, and Rockport for 10 days, being from Albuquerque this was a major treat to see all the different shore birds. We saw 33 life birds and after 30 plus years we saw Whooping Crains again. WE also had a serendipity moment when asking directions at Goose Lake State Park the volunteer ask us if we have come to see the YELLOW-FACED GRASSQUIT a lost migrant from Central America. No but, we paid the entry fee got her directions and were rewarded. As I said a serendipity moment. We will repeat this again next winter to enclude Big Bend National Park, the World Birding Center and the area we went to this past Feb. We met lots of great people, birders and rvers just seem to enjoy sharing great things and adventures with each other. Here's good seeing to you Stoney.

If you go into the center of Florida you can routinely see American Bald Eagles. We have about 8 nesting pair on our chain of lakes. (Griffin Chain), We have them on our dock and see them all the time.

Something to remember when watcching eagles is that they don't get their final black and white color until they are 4 years old and sexually mature. The younger ones are black and brown mottled in color. There is one shown on my dock with one of their parents.
