My wife likes thread. Anybody know of an organized motorhome convoy that goes from one shop to the next?

Threadzilla (my wife) would love to hear about it.

Thank you,

Amy and Don

Donavan,
You are a pretty considerate hubby to even consider traveling from quilt/fabric shop to quilt/fabric shop because your wife likes thread. While my husband would be happy to stop at various shops I was interested in, I doubt he would find that a real good reason to plan our travel route. I mostly buy my threads online so that solves my problem, and the prices are considerably cheaper.
I do know you can buy travel guides that direct you to quilt/fabric shops in just about any city/state in the country. I had a friend who found all sorts of neat fabrics on an extended trip across country by using the guide. It sounded like a great time.
You are a good husband.

Just found this thread from last January. Would love to know where I can find a book on fabric/quilting/sewing stores around the country. Sounds like a good reason to plan a trip I want to take and include my hobbies, too!

Hi This is Amy aka Threadzilla

The Book I have was purchased at a quilt shop and is called "Quilters' Travel Companion" It list the shops by state. I just returned from the AQS Quilt Show in Paducah KY and I saw several vendors that had them for sale there. You maybe able to find it online too.

If you are into quilting, Paducah, KY could be an interesting stop even when the show is not going on, as they have a quilt museum and several other shops. I kind of analyzed things on this trip to see how RV friendy the city is for getting around and in my opinion it looked good, and there are campgrounds in the area.

We will be heading west to Montana & Wyoming soon and I am making a list of potential stops.

Don is pretty terrific about my sewing addiction.

Threadzilla-

while its not exactly pertaining to thread or motor coaching there there something here in washington that might intrest you. its called the quilt shop hop. basically a group of stores in washington (69 i think last year) pass out blocks and give away prizes after you have visited so many stores (they give you a passport to have stamped). they all pick a fabric and all stores do blocks around that fabric. every store has a different block. i believe that you get the pattern and the quit shop hop fabric for free, but have to buy any additional fabric for the block. but i am not sure on that. i have not been, i have been the one to stay at home and babyset all of the kids.

if you go to www.gatheringfabric.com there is more information.

hope this helps-
kerrie

Thanks for all the info. I'll order the book from Amazon and plan to visit Gathering Fabric on our next trip to Washington. Thanks again!

Hi Donovan and Threadzilla,

We have the exact same motorhome and I love it. I removed one of the chairs so I could store my sewing machine, quilter's tote and current projects.

I used the Quilters Companion book as we traveled the East coast to the FL Panhandle, Branson and Kentucky.

I often checked online or phoned when we got to the city to make sure the store was still in business and at the same location.

My husband generously stopped at every quilt store on my list. I would check out kits or unique patterns (from store samples). Came home with some treasures.

Loved the quilt store in Branson. I made my husband buy a one day fishing license so I could drop him off and shop for hours with no guilt. So many bolts and samples. I ended up selecting fabrics for the a quilt for the RV bed using the Yellow Brick Road pattern with assorted greens, mauves and purples. It came out so great! Lots of camper compliments.

Can't wait for our next travel trip and more quilt stores.

MaryAnn the Quilter
