Has anybody done any recording in their RV?
I tried recording some bass tracks for an album in our coach and they're noisy as hell. I discovered I need to turn off the house battery maintainer. That was a huge contributor to the buzz, but there's still a lot in the tracks.
Has anyone encountered this problem and found a solution? I'm thinking about getting one of those Furman power conditioners, or something similar.
My setup now consists of:
Six string jazz bass > Fishman Stage Platinum Preamp > Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 > laptop with Audacity.
I'd appreciate any insight!

On Jackson Browne's Running On Empty album the song Nothing But Time was recorded on his tour bus in route to his next show.
That's all I know about recording in a moving RV. I know that doesn't help you at all, but it is an interesting piece of trivia.

Almost anything that has a switching or high-frequency power supply can add noise. Turn off computers, cell phones, fluorescent lights, anything with a power supply; TV amplifier, etc.

I use a Yamaha mixer,Teac A3340,Beyer ribbon mics with my Taylor KOA 12 string and a Fender Twin with my Les Paul and don't have any issues.
Almost all the new electronics use switching power supplies now as opposed to the much "cleaner" transformer/full wave rectifier/main filter cap systems of the vintage gear.

Now that's a setup I'd like to see in an RV! Glad to hear about someone else still putting a 3340 to use! I've got two of em with the simulsync in storage. I couldn't imagine full timing with a boat anchor Twin and an old tape recorder!

I have logic pro 10, on a macbook pro (and logic 9 on macbook air) .. i have irig pro interfaces, and line/midi/usb.. no noise there.. the mac seems to be isolated through its power supply. plus i can unplug it..
the mic i use, i opted for a Rode M1-s live performance type.. dynamic, i can run my roof top aircon, and it dont get picked up. in fact, you can scream at the back of that imc with hardly a peeps making it in (think of live stage monitors).. If you use condenser in an rv, its going to pick up everything.. even your tummy growling if you happen to be hungry.... oops..
i also do smule, using the same stuff.. if you want water, just step back 2 feet.. mic wont hear the plastic bottle crackling or sloshing, nor will it hear you stepping back, unless you thump the mic stand.. it can sometimes hear that. that said, you can always turn the switch off easily, and not hear that either..
RØDE Microphones - M1-S (live perf and lockable) 115 bucks in the us, 140 in aus. From IK Multimedia, the irig pro (and pro i/o) is 129 and 149 respectively in the usa. much higher here for the irig pro, and you cant get the I/O without a fight.. but it seems i like fighting, because its on the way.. lol they just released it. so it allows me to charge the phone/ipad while recording. because powering a dynamic mic really takes the piss out of the battery.. I bought it from IK headquarters in italy.

That's cool.
I'm not concerned with audible noise since I'm only recording direct right now.
As soon as I can afford one, I'm picking up a power conditioner. Hopefully that'll do the trick!

I call mine the buzz box. Its a ferroresonant isolation transformer and it cleans out the crap in the AC line.

I don't remember where or when I got it a bunch of years a go. I don't recall the brand, but it was commercially made and is buried deep in storage.

Well that's no help!
Work is rough here in Ontario Oregon. Hopefully when we get to Reno next month I'll be able to afford the Furman power conditioner I've been looking at
