dog-soldier, You are one sick puppy ! (sorry just couldn't help myself). I have never heard of anyone collecting reel mowers before. How in the world did this come over you ? I would love to hear a little more from you about it. How do people react when you show them your collection ?

PS Just read about your upcoming operation and will keep you in my prayers.

That old push mower brings back memories, when I was a kid I would push one all over town on the weekend and mow yards to make money so I could go to the hobby shop and buy model airplane kits.

Boy Soldier, you bring back a lot of memories. I worked in a very progressive small engine repair shop in the 10th grade. What fun....these old Reos were my speciality. We had a lathe set up to sharpen the tines and the base plate. When we were done sharpening we'd do a final lapping with valve grinding compound. We would show the owner how sharp the blade was by using paper to clip it up. When the blades were sharp that was one smooth cutting puppy. rockin'

i use to collect antique and vintage riding mowers but ran out of space plus after i had a 4 bypass 3 years ago i kinda lost interest in the riders. i was at a friends house that also had a mower junk yard and he asked if i wanted some free mowers, free is always good so i took them. he gave me 3 reel mowers and that was the start of it. before my legs got as bad as they are now from the blockage i would mow the yard with them. each week i used a different one. the neighbors would just watch like they never seen anyone mow before. but after my legs got bad i had to use my rider which i plan on retiring after i can walk farther. i want to find a wood lathe and go to shows and make rollers for them since its near impossible to to find them.plus i could get a small trailer and pull it behind the M/H for a place to stay.

P.S. Chuck 1935 thanks for the prayers

I have been involved in the OPE industry since 1975 and love old engines. My fiancee (and most of my friends) think I am a little off the wall but that's o.k. My current passion is chainsaws, don't have room for old mowers which is probably a good thing.

I used to have to cut my folks grass with one of the pushers. Had to have my sister grab the other half of the handle and we pushed in tandem. Now kids just watch the landscapers work.
