If I say Rob, do any of you know who I'm talking about?

My Parrot Quadracopters have switchable forward and down looking cameras. I don't recommend Parrot because their CS sucks. I think it was xTreme something or other that sent me a new navigation board that was bad and they would not honor their printed and online defective part return policy. I ended up sending the main frame of the copter back to Parrot for a good part.

I see the onboard cameras and would like more info on them.

Just how do you control the camera for taking video shots, or still photos when the camera is on the chopper? Is there a remote controlled camera of good quality (12 mp or better) that can do both video and stills?

Do you monitor the video from camera in real time and if recording video can you snap a still at the same time??

I have looked at the Panasonic fx-580 and now that camera is not available. But the questions remain.

God Bless

Bill

I don't know the pixel rating, but you fly the Parrot with an iPod, iPad, or iPhone and I think you can switch between video and still. Can't test now as the quadracopters are in the MH and it is in the shop getting a new motor and AC.

Have you Googled Panasonic fx-580? Seems to be some on Ebay.

Very cool. I wondered what there would be to do when I retired F/T. It is true the only thing that changes is the price of our toys.

Flying RC Helis will give you plenty to do, like rebuilding them when they crash as they so often do. I would spend as much time in the basement during the week rebuilding as I did at the field flying them on the weekends.

Other than flying full scale, flying RC was as close as it got for me. Although only slightly cheaper.

Quadracopters are very stable and easy to learn. Best to fly when there is zero wind. There are several free apps to fly them and the functions can be highly modified. The Parrot flight time with a stock battery is about 11 minutes, but spares are cheap and readily available. They can be flown indoors and the best place would be in a warehouse or gym basketball arena.

I haven't flown enough to get bored. At my age, if I can do anything, it's exciting.

Dunner, I am with you. AT 50, things are starting to "slow" down. The guys I fly with are younger and can really wring these things out. I am not so crazy.

Ant any rate, IRCHA is the place to be for RC Helis. If any of you get there, email me and we will get together. I am there Wed night to Sunday and take the RV. Great time. eMail is chrisgyingling at gmail dot com.

Hope to see some of you there.

I just started trying rotor......I am a fixed wing flyer. I like to fly RC Combat and we camp at the events. When we are at a campground......I bring my elec 3D foamies and an elec sailplane. Always brings attention but never had any complaints.

I need to find a calm place to practice and get some air time.

Gents,
This is way cool. I'm just getting into RC Helicopters. I got a tiny, twin rotor, one at the head and one at the tail a couple of years ago and finally mastered it in the house. Not much control though. We just returned from the annual Quartzsite event and, yep, I got one of those twin rotor, both at the front, one over the top of the other. It's model 9101.

I've crashed it a few times and did slight damage. Some tape on the parts and it's back in the air. I'm getting pretty good at it to this point in time. But, I'm now looking at the next step. This heli will go up, down, forward (although if there's any wind at all, it won't counter act it) and back ward, and turn left and right.

It's labeled as a 3 channel kit. I think I'm getting ready for the next step in chopper flying. I need to learn and watch other flyer's. I need to know what all the terms are IRACH or what ever it is, etc. I really would like to know when and where there's any meets of some type that RC helicopter people, RVrs that is, get together and teach or at least show guys like me the ropes and what's what. I'm kind of having a ball so far.
Scott
