Not a woodcarver, but I am a whittler.
I turn stcks and other assorted bits of wood into piles of wood chips

What type of whittling do you do? Small quick things like those old time things we associate with whittling?

I carve, not as much as I would like but.... Carving is a great hobby for RV'ers. You can always find wood, most medium sized cities have a wood supply place or three. Some even have a decent wood tool place. Once you learn to sharpen your own tools and get some wood you have everything you need expect time and ideas.

I have also taken to tying flies and recently got my ham radio license. Now I have more hobbies than time and FAR more hobbies than money - oh life is good.

What style of carving do you do? I enjoy carving ugly cowboys. This could be good place to swap patterns.

Wow - nicely done. I always wanted to try birds but don't seem to have the touch for it.

Impressive

My wife has carved a few fish and some birds, but mostly mammals, fox, wolves, bear etc. and I carve mostly caricatures. Here is a photo of my latest carving

Being as you all are posting pictures of wonderful carvings now, here's a link to some of my CNC carvings. Handcrafted Wood Design
The Carvewright is a hobby machine but mine has paid for itself many times over.

I started carving because I wanted something else to do while camping. Watching Gene Messer on YouTube for instructions. Can't beat him for newbie carvers needing help. He has been putting videos out since 2008. Want to do small figures around 3 to 5 inches. This is what I am doing now to get comfortable with the knife.
