2000 Am Coach with 8.3 ISC, temp sensor?

Are there known issues with 2000 8.3 ISC motors temp sending units? One trip leg stays steady at 190/195, then next leg it flutters up to 210/220 occasionally.

My 1999 ISC would do that and on a long grade alarm would go off. I took it to 3 different Cummins shops plus a mobile mechanic and a Cat dealer. I finally replaced radiator, hydraulic clutch fan motor (2 speed) and it was much improved. But it would fluctuate from about 180-205 after it ran at 185 for the first 3 years I owned it.

I would have the hydraulic clutch fan checked and confirm that the 2nd speed is kicking in, I would also clean the radiator fins, both inside and outside and have inspected. I wouldn't be overly concerned with those temperatures, but if I remember my alarm would come on at 225 or 230 and then the engine would shut down at 235 I think. Good luck!

I have 2000 american eagle and temp use to climb over 200 until I replaces the exhaust manifold and fixed some holes in the air cooler. That improved turbo boost. I had to put a new radiator when I first bought it. 5 year ago. I would replace the hydaulic oil filters. Three of them you get from spartan. Fleet pride has them for around 20 bucks. spartan is 42 each. You replace the oil with aw32, they came from factory with tranny fluid. You may want to replace the radiator cap. I could also be the priority valve the regulators flow between you steering and fan. You remove that valve and cycle it to check that.
They did not come with 2 speed fan, but good upgrade if you have to replace fan motor. I have a silverleaf and my dash temp guage does read 10 or 12 degrees hotter then whan the silverleaf shows. The silverleaf shows 175 most of the time, unless climbing steep grades. here are part numbers for the hyrdo filters.
