2004 Mountain Master IFS?
I'm looking at a 2005 DSDP 4009 with the MM Chassis. I assume that the chassis is probably a 2004 build. Are all MM chassis IFS? Normally I see IFS featured in Newmar literature but I don't see that in the brochure.

I call it a mulroony because auto dealerships call the original invoice from the factory
by that name Or in the Caterpillar vernacular it is the original equipment list.

I think all Spartan MM chassis are IFS.
If the coach your considering has the 12,000# Reyco-Granning IFS be advised that there are ball joint issues with that particular IFS. The seals wear prematurely and then dirt can enter and wear out joints. Approx. $2000 to replace joints. Ours were replaced at about 70,000 but I've heard of replacement at 35,000. I've also heard that PM using grease injection can stave off ball joint wear. In any case I think you will like the Spartan chassis.

If the build sheet has 12000lb. IFS I would craw under and see what the ball joint seals look like. I just spent $2700 to replace mine with 35000 miles at an authorized Spartan shop. I would keep that in mind when I'm bidding on a used coach. I have heard they may have improved the material they made the seals out of as time went along. Some have been lucky and apparently there seals didn't self destruct while some of us not so lucky.

Our 2002 DSDP on MM chassis has had the front 12,000# axle replaced with a 14,600# (in 2004). The higher rated axles don't seem to have the boot rotting problem as ours are still good.

I have my boots inspected each year at the annual service. So far, no problem. We have almost 100,000 miles.

What front axle rating do you have?
As I said in my earlier post, the higher rated front axles don't seem to have the problem. Seems to be only the 12,000# ones on the earlier units like our DSDP originally came with.

As far as I know, I have the 12,000# IFS. That is what is listed on the brochure and I don't know how I would tell the difference. I was not the original owner of the MH.

Not all MM chassis have an IFS. My Travel Supreme has a Meritor 12,000# straight front axle.
