I have a 2007 Dutch Star on Spartan Chassis. Recently started having a problem that the low beam headlights are going out. High Beams will always work but if you switch back to low beams they are out. Daytime lights work. You can shut coach off and try next day or hours later and low beams will work again for little while then go out again. Talked to Spartan they don't believe its the encoder for smartwheel as the high beams work. Thanks Jon

Don't know the Spartan chassis, but the low beam "fuse" may be an auto reset breaker. Perhaps it's going bad or you need one with a few more amps.

Thanks for you reply, from what I can see and what the Spartan rep told me the low and high beam aren't serperately fused. Just one main 15amp fuse that feeds headlight circuit and it's good.

Headlighs are usually dont have a fuse that burns out as a saftey feature. If there is a short the "fuse" will heat up and then open the circuit and the "fuse" will close when it cools.

I have a 2007 Newmar on a Spartan Chassis. Recently started having problems where the low beam headlights will go out. The high beams will always work so it doesn't appear to be power supply as low and high beams are supplied by same power source. Try the low beams again later and they work again but will go out. Sometimes in 20seconds other times hours. Any ideas?

Could be your headlight relay.

I've seen this before and it's usually a relay, or believe it or not, the VIP smartwheel module. Have you had any problems with your steering wheel controls? The wheel module controls the low beam relay and if there's a problem with the module or there's an excess draw on the headlight circuit (you've not added anything or swapped out your headlights for an HID kit, etc?) the module will cut power to the headlights after a period of time.
Please see this for more information.
Just a wild guess. Check the draw on the headlights... make sure it's not over the amperage rating in the aforementioned manual.

Thanks for replys so far guys, according to Spartan there are no relays in the system(that was my original thought. I have added or chaged anything to the coach this summer and just recently started happening. Spartan didn't feel it could be the module for smartwheel as the highbeams will work all the time. Thanks again.

From the looks of following wiring from the head lamps on PDF Link by Lindy T supplied plug p-2 wiring goes through relays in circuit controlled by the switch's on Smart Wheel.

Newmar presumably installed the headlights, I would ask them personally - not Spartan.
I can tell you for sure that there are relays between the smartwheel module and the lights -- if not, it flat-out wasn't wired correctly. The smartwheel is simply a controlling circuit, it cannot handle the load of the lights on its own.
Not discounting Spartan's information, simply relaying my experiences. I wish you the best of luck. Electrical gremlins are the worst.
