I think I may be facing the same problem, what did you find out there for a socket type wrench for the bottom of the filter?
Thanks

Had a 4 hour experience with oil filter. The filter was on tight but the big problem between the pan and the frame there is only a small space so you need to go straight up to remove oil filter and there aren't any grips on the bottom of filter. Used over 10 different tools but when it was almost to dark to work it came loss. Need to check if someone makes a oil filter socket for the 1400 Cummins oil filter. Think it's going to need a 1/2 drive attachment to get enough power to get filter off.
