A few wheel questions?
05 Fleetwood Revolution LE on a Spartan Chasis 22.5 inch rims
1. What size Socket is needed for the lug nuts?
2. What is the torque on the lug nuts?
3. Anyone ever changed their own 22.5 inch tires? I was reading the specs on the tires, and they weigh just a little over 100lbs......I would assume the rim must weight about that much....so there's a LOT of weight to deal with when changing them......but mechanics do it, so what tricks do they use. Thanks
Brian

I would use my cell phone. Are you seriously thinking about changing you own tire?

I have two un-mounted Michelins that I can hardly stand up. It would take two of me to stand one up that was mounted on a rim....
It seems like I heard that the lug nuts are torqued to 100#. I have heard that it takes a 5' bar to break the lug nuts loose, and of course to torque them for re-install. I watched the guys at the shop do it on my tires and know that I would not have the tools to do it. They used a big, big impact wrench to loosen the nuts, and a large torque wrench with the long bar to torque them.

They are much higher than 100 lbs. Shoot the wifes escalade torqued at like 145lbs. Call spartan they will tell you.

Probably right about 100# being low... maybe more like 450#.
Here's something I found regarding constructing a torque wrench for high torque:
Torque Wrench extensions

Hi supercub,
My coach has 275X70X22.5 tires. I carry a fully mounted spare tire in the basement. I have all the tools to change a tire and have changed 2 tires on the coach (impact wrench, torque bar, extension bar and air compressor). Using the extension bar and basic leverage I never lift the tire. The right front and the right inside dual rear tire are the tires I have changed. I have roadside emergency assistance plan and that is my first choice. I carry a fully mounted spare tire because my tire size is difficult to find. I do not care to have many days delay waiting for a tire to be found and pay a higher than retail price. The torque on the lug nuts is around 450 lbs. The tire and wheel weigh about 275 lbs. I weigh 164 lbs.
It is a long story as to why I changed the tires.

Gary, yur da man!
Alas, I would like to do the same, but think it would take way too much tooling and storage space.

Jack it up after you break the nuts loose and then stick two 2 x 4's to prop them and you can walk the tire of the nuts. No lifting. Just don't let it lay over.
