This sounds like a very wierd problem as the ABS system should have no effect on any other system. It kind of sounds like you may have more than one problem. First it appears you have an ABS issue and you should be able to get the ABS codes. I describe how I did this below with my ABS system. THen your second problem may be some issue with your dash electronics (odometer indicator) which is computer controlled. THe computer controls all of the gauges including speedometer. You should be able to PUt the dash in diagnostics mode and determine if you have any faults with the dash computer system. I can put my dash in "diagnostics mode" by pressing the trip meter button several times. Read your owners manual for more info. I would guess the ABS fault is causing your dash computer to go into some faulty mode.
My ABS fault light would intermittently come on. When on it did not have any other "side effects". By cycling the ignition switch on/off once the ABS fault would reset and all would be fine....sometimes for weeks. When it go worse I did some research and got manufacturor model numbers and was able to get diagnostics manuals on-line from the manufactor.
My ABS computer is located on the driivers side frame rail about mid way between the rear axle and the allison. Finding the model number on the ABS computer I was able to locate the service and diagnostic manuals from the manufacturer. My unit is a Meritor/Wabco. Using the info in the manual I was then able to locate the ABS test switch (mine was very difficult to get to and is located on the floor to the left of the accelerator way behind a panel). By putting the ABS in test mode the system then dumped the stored ABS codes by flashing the ABS lamp. The ABS fault code indicated a failed right rear wheel sensor. The following Resistance check information from the service manual the fault was confirmed. A new sensor was ordered from the very helpful folks at Sparton. When I had my tires replaced I pulled the rear brake drum while the wheels were off the replaced the faulty sensor. The fault was instantly reset and have never again appears. All is fine.
