ABS trouble

Is there a scanner that I can get to check the ABS that is lite up on my American Eagle? I had to replace all the brakes this last week and I cleaned all the sensors when I did them. This ABS light was on before the brakes were done. When I got the last set of brakes done yesterday I took the coach out for a shakedown and the ABS lite went out for about 5 miles. Then when I stopped at the last stop light before home the ABS light came back on. Anyway I could use a scanner to check these problems like I have for my cars. Thanks

You should be able to put the ABS into "blink mode" where the ABS light displays via blink counts the stored error codes. There are only a couple of companies that make the ABS devices. My chassis uses the Meritor-Wabco ABS-E verision. The ABS controller will either be a "cab mount" version or a "frame mount" version. My chassis uses a frame mount version which was mounted on the frame just aft of the rear axle. About mid-point between the rear axle and the transmission. Bendix devices are used in some chassis.

Anyway, locate the ABS module and determine who the manufacture is and what the model is. Then go to the manf. web site and download the service manuals. These manuals will provide instructions on how to put the ABS into test mode and what the error codes are.

My ABS test switch is located under the dash near the the engine service plug. It is a rocker switch clearly marked as "ABS TEST". Good luck.

The ABS computer should be located at the top of your frame and is made by Wabco-Meritor. Spartan authorized repair centers have special software and use a laptop to verify the ABS system and read fault codes. There is no scanner that I know of like the ones used for cars. With the coach off, you can disconnect the two lead cables coming into the ABS computer wait 30 minutes and reconnect the cables, this will reset the ABS computer. Also you can have someone sit in your coach and turn the key on then off while you listen for each sensor to "click" at each wheel as the key is turned on. This will require that the key be turned on and off four times, once for each wheel sensor. If you do not hear a certain ABS sensor click when the key is turned on I would suspect that wheel sensor. Also check each sensor to make sure the sensor wire is attached. You may have disconnected a sensor wire when doing your brake job. Good Luck, hope this helps to narrow down your search.

Another question about my ABS. Is the abs also tyed into the pac brake. I don't seem to have the pacbrake with the abs light on. Just a thought. Thanks
