We have a 2009 Spartan Chassis, Newmar Allstar, 42 ft.

It is hot in Texas, but the AC air coming out of the dash is only "cool" at the dash vent and not "cold". Is this normal?

Something to note is that your AC compressor is still driven by the engine which is a long ways from the cooling coil in your heater/AC box at the front of your Coach. All that piping has got to make the dash AC far less efficient than a front engine unit. Most of us that want to cool the coach down while traveling, forget about operating the dash AC, we start the Generator and turn on the roof AC's, much more efficient and cools the whole coach rather than the dash AC trying to do it.

Hi Don,
Gut feel says you have a problem. My DP AC produces ice cold AC even in the desert, in the summer. Your mid engine chassis should do the same thing. The problem may or may not be with the AC. It could be with the mechanical mechanism that keeps the hot coolant away from the AC air. This is inside the dash. For me this would require a service call to check the A/C first.

Don,
If you have it checked be sure to ask the service center to check with Spartan.
When I was at Newmar last month my dash A/C was blowing hot air. The tech told me that they have had problems with some coaches operating in hotter temp areas. He said that Spartan installed a high side pressure switch which allowed too much pressure when operating in these climates. The compressor would blow it's seals along with the o-rings on the immediate lines coming off of the compressor. This is what had happened to mine, I operate alot in Ga., Tenn., N.C. and Fla.. The cure was a new compressor due to the blown seals along with new lines and o-rings coming off the compressor. Of course they also changed the pressure switch to allow for a lower cut off pressure to prevent recurrence.
