I have a 99 dutchstar that is now due for its second set of ball joints. Reyco Granning replaced them in 1993 for no charge, but now state no longer under warranty. Here again it is not a wear issue but by using the improper material for the boots the have failed again. Has anyone reported this to the NHTSA and if so was there any response to this as a safety issue.

younpete...welcome to iRV2! You would usually have an an answer by now from someone on the forum - but I am going to guess that no one as had an issue with theirs' yet.
Have you tried to do a search on the NHTSA site yet?

Good luck finding the info you are looking for. We may still have someone post back with their experience...I hope so.
Again welcome to iRV2 - We hope to see you often.

Hi younpete,
Welcome to iRV2. The only thing I can recommend is this thread at Lubed for Life Ball Joints!. In addition to greasing my greased for life ball joints, with the procedure mentioned in the thread, I now coat the rubber boot with a revitalizing coating once a year. It is easy to do as I do the annual chassis maintenance.

Younpete:
I have a 2004 Dutch Star that had 58K miles this past September returning from Alaska. I notice that I started having excess wear on my front tires. Stopping in Thunder Bay, OT., I had the coach checked out and was told that my ball joints were bad. I called Spartan and made arrangements to stop by their factory to have them replaced. When I paid my bill, I asked about the replacements and was told that they replaced them with the same that was on my coach. I asked that with so much problems that they had with those ball joints, why had they not have a better replacement. Bottom line, they had no answer. We enjoyed our time there at the factory. Was very impress with their customer service. Just disappointed in the replacement.

Now that's great idea! I rub silicone into all the weatherstripping and seals whenever I service the coach and that keeps the rubber from ever drying out andcracking. With all the maintenance I do on my coach I've never thought about taking care of the rubber boots on the suspenson stuff. I've got to add that to my list.
