To clarify the reaction time of a CD. If you encounter a change in crosswind or road crown, it does indeed take anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds do decide you really aren't going around a long bend but in fact are going straight ahead so takes over that slight pulling for you so you don't have any steady-state load on the wheel.

That's now what you are discussing in this thread. You are really asking how fast can it provide full power to the steering gear to help you guide it straight. That time is a few milliseconds. It continually updates the power to the motor to give you the correct handwheel torque so if it needs more motor torque, you have it essentially immediately. As long as the steering loads are within the ability of the steering gear, you can turn or hold the wheel. Whether holding the wheel straight keeps the vehicle in control or not is outside the scope of the CD.

Does this help this discussion?

One particular rogue wind sounded like a blast went off. Since I don't have any other experience in a DP, let alone one with CD, I don't know what is considered normal. My steering is vey light to the touch (finger soft), but rquires constant vigalence, to maintain course.
Scotty, I have never driven in the situation as you describe and can only speak for my short wheel base Ventana.

My highway driving experience is to maintain a constant speed between 60 - 63 mph and can honestly say that even with 15 - 20 mph cross winds, I can hold the steering wheel with one hand and still feel secure. The RV will maintain a straight line and does not push or pull with the wind. The part that I like the best is when a semi fly's by doing 70, my steering wheel holds true and I don't have to compensate.

From what I've read here on IRV2, the best handling RV's will be a heavy 45 ft. with tag and since I don't have one of those, for me, the CD is a big advantage

If this thread continues with some real benefits to add a Safe-T - Plus type system to CD, I would seriously consider it, but for now, I happy with the Comfort Drive.

I need to proofread better. I meant to say "That's NOT what you're discussing in this thread."

Sorry for the confusion.
