Our 07 Newmar has gone thru 6 fan clutches in less than 7000 miles. Failure occurs after using the fan for any extended period of time, as when using the Pac Brake down a grade or idling at a rest stop. Spartan has been involved in every failure, including checking the ECM settings ( fan on w/Pac Brake), pressure testing the air valve feeding the fan, running a dedicated air line to the fan, we even tried disconnecting the air feed and leaving the fan on all the time, this resulted in failre within 80 miles. I am at my wits end. We paid all the money for a clean, low mile top notch coach from a reputable dealer and have nothing but grief. Every trip this summer has ended up with us camping amongst the semis for days on end. Anyone else have some insight ? The Spartan tech today told me the fan clutch is not rated for continuous duty. Try telling the OTR truckers that.

The drama continues, 6 clutches in 6000 miles. Spartan stepped up and transported it from Lodi, Ca to the factory to figure it out. Coach is on a MM chassis with ISC 330, seems like they have made a bunch of these and it should be a no brainer.

I have to ask, have they ever replaced the fan itself? If it was seriously out of balance could that make the fan clutch go? Any resolution to your problem?

So far still in the repair stage, Spartan really stepped up to the plate and sent a tech from Michigan to Lodi Calif to attempt a repair, he wound up welding the fan clutch up and transporting the unit to the factory. Factory engineers have checked the fan, cooolant flow, ECM etc and have determined that on my particular Ventana a heaver rated clutch may solve the problem. They are replacing the OEM Borg Warner/ Kaiser with a Horton. All of the truckers I hung out with while waiting for replacements swear by Hortons and by having a manual override switch to engage the fan as needed. Spartan also did a full factory service for us while the coach was at their facility. It leaves next week for Newmar to address some paint issues on the roof radius and to install a plenum constrictor on the air inlet. Can't say enough good things about Spartan, when they took ownership of the problem they moved into the solution seeking mode. I haven't seen the coach for seven weeks, hope it gets back to Seattle before the snow really starts flying.
