Fuel

I just bought a 1996 HR imperial with the MM - 2242 spartan chassis c 8.3. Been sitting for 3 years ran when it was parked. Having trouble keeping fuel back to motor keep hitting the air purge button it will crank and Reve up and idle for about a minute then runs outa fuel. Didn’t know if there was a pump in the tank or not can’t get under it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Change all of the Fuel Filters and pre-Prime them- Fill with clean Fuel.
Sitting that long - there will be Alge in the Filters.- Charge the Batteries
Attempt a re-Start.

Did you Check coolant level ?

Could be the shut down system turning off the fuel.

If you engine is the 8.3 mechanical engine is has a mechanical fuel pump on the side of the engine, forget which side.
These pumps are notorious to failure. Hard or no start issues.
Get the engine serial number and go to a Cummins dealer/distributor and determine if your engine has this mechanical pump, and they can advise you on a course of action.

If you still have this problem, when the engine starts and oil pressure registers, immediately go to high-idle( 1200 RPM) until the engine smooths out-or dies. If it dies,IMO you have a delivery problem instead of air in the system.
