Occassionally, my hyd jacks won't stay extended. It happens when I am leveling. I extend the jacks until the pump indicates no more extension, let the button go, and I hear and feel the jacks retracting.

It doesnt happen each time, so I am perplexed.

Anyone have an answer?

Your valve body or your dashboard panel appears to have developed an anomaly. You are going to need to rule out one of those 2 systems and isolate the problem.

romeo: Do you have to continually hold your "button" down while your jacks deploy?? If ya depress and immediately release your auto-level button...what happens??

My system is manual not automatic. I need to press a button continually, to level.

I wonder if it has something to do with being too far out of level, to level, so the system quits.

This spot is along the curb in front of the house as shown in the photo above. I can usually level in that spot, but sometimes it just wont do it.

Hi Ron,
Try stopping the leveling process before the jacks are fully extended. This may not allow the coach to be level. My suggestion is to try and change the symptom.

Your solenoids have white wires on them that go to a common ground point on chassis or ground wire than to buss or frame.
I have a bolt welded to chassis frame. When I got coach I checked all the ground points I could find for batteries, converter, Gen etc, etc.
My wires from jack solenoids were all loose and corroded the nut holding them on bolt was never tighten.
Had to remove ring connectors clean and used a star washer under nut and tighten. Applied some Di-electric grease to protect connections.
High resistance connection caused jacks to act erratically.
If you lift the rail showing low side by operating button for both front and rear jack for that rail, if you are on uneven ground first jack will stop until other jack touches the ground than both will lift rail together.
Than lift other rail both of its front & rear jack until yellow light goes out or shifts to front or back of coach.
You can than lift both front jacks or back jacks to level. If unleveled to much can flex frame and doors may bind if lifted to much.

HI Gary,

Speaking of "stopping the process...", this morning I was installing a washer and dryer in the motorhhome and needed to extend the slideout in order to get the W/D in through the driver's door. This also required removing the drivers seat by getting at the seat bolt nuts on the underside the coach. So I needed a better place to work other than in the street, so I moved to a friend's concrete apron to do the work. When I extened the jacks they did the same thing as when in the street in front of the house. Jack's would not stay extended. However, I remembered something I tried once in the past when I had this problem; hitting the "off" button when the jacks were down and the coach was level. That worked... and when I checked to see if the jacks would stay extended when I pressed the "on" button again, they stayed extended.

So, I guess this is a way to get around the problem, but I would like to find the source of the problem before it gets worse.

007,

I am somewhat aware of the ground problems that several folks have had, since I was searching for my problem and found the extensive discussion on the subject.

When I was under the coach today I noticed one of the ground connections to the chassis and thought of what I read. The one I saw looked good but one doesnt really know until one loosens the bolt and checks for bright metal. I put this on the "to-do" list and will have to track down the others that you mentioned.

Thanks to all that offered suggestions, greatly appreciated.

BTW, have you ever drilled a 4" hole in the side of your coach?

I did!

It took me all day to get up the courage... I put it off 'til the last thing, then had to do it for the dryer vent. I finally finished about 9:00pm tonight.

Hi Romeo,
Congrats on the W/D install. I've done a few of those and it really makes me feel like I've been water skiing all day.

Thanks for the update on the jack problem. If the jacks work because you turned the system off, it sounds to me like the valve that allows the fluid to return to the reservoir is staying open. Why it is staying open is much harder to determine. A call to HWH should steer you in the right direction.

Good point, makes sense. I will call HWH.
