Has anyone had any luck getting a spare key duplicated from their Spartan ignition key.

The local locksmith that I usually use (who has thousands of blanks) can't match up the Spartan key blank.

I imagine the ignition lock cylinder might be used in many vehicles, but finding the right key is the challange.

Any suggestions other then the dealer?

Of all the keys in the coach, the ignition key was the easiest to get duplicates for. I got mine a Lowes.

Thanks for the ideas about GM

I'll give the store the idea of a GM key. SO far I tried 2 hardware stores and a Home Depot. After striking out at all of them, I went to the locksmith who spent 40 minuts looking through books and blanks.

Just curious, are your ignition keys a large rubber headed double cut key?

Tomorrow...I'll try Lowes.

Joe,
Key is exactly the same as my 2007 Spartan Chassis , having the same problem getting key made as your experiencing, my locksmith told be to go directly to the factory with the key number, they will probably send as many dupes as requested. I haven't got around to it yet, thanks for the reminder.

Joe, My '07 has the basic GM key not the fancy double edged rubber headed key that you have. Does yours have a digital security chip in the head?

Joe,
The picture of your key is nothing like my key. Can you call Spartan and see what they say?

Thanks for the comments about the keys. I did give Spartan a call today and found that older model chassis did use a GM key (you guys were right)
Newer chassis though(and I didn't get a serial number cut over) are using a new key like the one in the photograph. I forgot to ask, but I don't think it's a transponder key as I don't see any antitheft warnings and the replacement key is cheap.

Until the newer style blanks are more common and available at locksmiths, the best solution to get a key is to call Spartan parts and order one. The cost of the key is $ 3.00 which is about a tenth of the money I spent on gas running around looking for one

Spartan Parts 1-800-722-3025.

The part number for the key is 083455-XXXS where XXX is you key code stamped into your key. If you don't have a key code, Spartan can look up the code based on your VIN, but sometimes the coach builder can switch ignition modules between chassis, so it is best to verify the code on one of your existing keys if yoiu can.

Yesterday, I was at an Ace Hardware store. They had a big picture of a key, just like your picture, proclaiming they make these keys.
