Question Ignition Key Switch

Anybody had the problem of Ignition Key Switch not working all the time? I have a 2011 American Coach on a Spartan Chassis andthe ignition only works if I play with it or turn it on quickly. I thought it was the switch so I ordered another from Spartan but have the same problem. Any advice before I take it to a garage?

The key assembly is from GM and it sounds like the key switch is shorting out and should be tested with a test light and if needed replaced. Not sure which key assembly from GM it is but it will be from a truck/van.

I have a 2001 with Spartan chassis with similar issue. I can hear a click but no crank sometimes. Otherwise I try it immediately afterwards and it works perfectly. Since I hear a click, I'm not so sure it's the ignition switch. Does not happen all the time though but gives me some anxiety that it will start. When it first started a couple of years ago, I replaced one of the 2 start batteries (it was about 8 years old). Still had issues but not as often.

Did you solve your issue?

I have the same issue and traced back to one of the relays in the start circuit I will change it out one of these days, in the mean time I just keep bumping the switch until the relay makes good contact. If it ever fails on the road, I can jumper it out to get me going. Problem has been going on for several years now and I also changed the Ignition Switch, Starter and one other relay with no improvement, finally found the missing relay up along the frame rail on the passenger side.

How did you finally find it? Was it clicking?

Yes, I had the wife cycle the ignition switch while I crawled under the coach and listened for it. It was tucked up in the frame rail and I had not looked into that area before. With a bright light I can see it and with a little effort I can work on it. Now that I have retired I will probably fix it next year, I have a lot of projects lined up and start picking away at them. The S&B has the highest priority and the coach and travel trailer the next. This year is just for regrouping and getting a handle on the new life style.
