I have the dreaded "Check Engine" light/buzzer on my dash readout. Diagnostic codes seem to indicate problems with the low coolant level sensor. I can get another one from Spartan, but due to traveling, I'm not sure a new part will catch up with me before I've drive several hundred more miles and someone told me I'm risking engine shutdown if not replaced in the near term.

After calling Cummins in Louisville, Elkhart and St. Louis I'm told this item isn't stocked and would have to be ordered. Does anyone have an idea of who might stock this item #CASCO 701678 along my route? I'm traveling from Louisville to St. Louis in the next several days.

Another thought is to jumper a couple of the 3-wire leads to this sensor, but I have no schematic on how this device is designed. Anyone know?

You probably don't need one. Make sure your ECM has an update past 6-05. Don't jumper the sensor. One line is the signal, ones the return and ones the 5 volt signal. My ISM did the same thing. sensor good, just needed the update.

What code is it showing? I'll look it up with the Insite program.

See if this helps. I don't think your ECM is set to shutdown the engine or derate it over the coolant sensor, unless they set it that way.

Where'd you come up with those codes? Should be 195 or 196.

Why not take the radiator cap off when it is cool and add more coolant?
Until it runs out then put cap back on.

Thanks, Perry, but this is an '07 chassis. Are you thinking I need an '05 update?

It all depends on the build date of the engine. I've an 06 and it had a june 05 update. The date the engine was built. When you going to be in St Louis?

Prior to performing INSITE™ electronic service tool EGR Valve and EGR Valve/Turbocharger Operational Test, the ECM Calibration Software Phase could possibly need to be updated to the latest Software Phase. The ECM Calibration Phase Software can be checked in INSITE™ electronic service tool, under 'Features and Parameters'. Expand the selection for 'System ID and Dataplate' and go to 'Calibration Information'. If the Software Phase is earlier than shown below, calibrate the ECM again using the January 2006 INCAL™ CD-ROM, or later. Engines with the Software Phase listed below or later do not require a recalibration. ISM engines with CM875 (engines built after January 2004) require Software Phase 06050312. This is a warrantable calibration change.

Ther updates also fixed problems with the low coolant sesor warning. Seems like the sensors don't like the ELC coolants. Mine was going off constantly and everything checked out OK. Did the update and never came on again. There had been about 14 updates from my build date . Last update is from June 2010.

I read 'em off the digital panel on the dash. Diagnostic codes. Then I found an online list of codes( can't find the link right now) and the codes indicate low coolant sensor problems.
