I have a 2003 American Dream on Spartan Chassis. Lately been driving along and it acts like some has just turned off the key and turned it back on? It only last about 1 to 3 Sec. of power loss. Have received from spartan a wiring digram of Start/charge and run circuits.
Was wondering if any one has had this problem before or know some one that may of had this happen to?
Spartan said it could be a main lose ground? Been covered with rain and have not had a chance to check it out yet.

Do you loose electrical power to the electronics such as gauges etc or is it more of a loss of power delivered from the engine?

It seems when it happens all the electronic gages and the panel lights go off and then come back on like it is ready to start again, once the power comes back the only light that stays on is the check engine light. I have a Vspc Computer system and i have went to the diagnostics and it does not say any problems. The last few time it happened I did not have the Vspc on. I will monitor the next time it happens and see if the computer catches anything. This is one that is hard to catch with all symptoms.

If you are loosing the gauges I would have to agree with Spartan on this. I would start out at the batteries cleaning and checking all connections. Next I would follow the ground wires to the frame and engine removing each and cleaning with a wire brush. You also need to check the ends of each cable as they are probably crimped and sometimes loosen up. Another thing to check is the battery disconnect switches themselves. I don't think the salesman switch inside would hurt you but the main switch would.

That is where i am going to start and also good idea to check the battery SW. I usually use the Battery disconnect when the coach is setting for more then a week. When the rain lets up i will start checking the system. I am stuck in Calif. in the 12 day rain and it has not let up enough to do any work on the system. I will let you know what I find if anything and hopfully soon.

PS. Thanks for your input. I was about to do battery maintenance soon so now i have a reason to persue it now.

If you can find a copy of the November issue of MotorHome magazine there are some pictures on pg 58 on battery maintenance and also ground cables. They state that there may be multiple ground cables attached both to the engine and also to the transmission. Happy hunting!!
