Rear wheel cover - MM Chassis

I have lost three rear wheel covers on my MM chassis (2003). Replaced two of them but I am now getting frustrated with the cost. I was talking to RVChassis Parts today to order new koni shocks (front and rear) and mentioned this to them. I was told there is an "improved" mounting arrangement to secure the wheel cover to the hub - cost is about $150/set. Two questions: Has anybody else had problems loosing the rear wheel cover and has anybody used the "improved" mounting device? I wish I had more info from Spartan but the correct contact person was out of the office this afternoon.

Yes and YES. My new coach has the new, improved rear hubcaps that come with a special wrench to tighten and take them off with. It is a positive lock arrangement and looks like it will solve the problem. I only have about 4700 miles on the coach but looking at the set up I really think that it is going to work. If I still had my old coach I would buy and install a set of these and be fairly confident that they have solved the problem. All just my opinion.

I have a 2003 Newmar Dutchstar on a Spartan Chassis. My wheel covers are great, never had any problems. Here is a link to the supplier. They are the Versa-Liner Simulaters. They fasten with lug nuts and nut covers. Good luck.

I just posted this information on another thread as well, but assuming you've lost the top hat cover rather than the rear wheel simulator, there is a new mounting system available.

It is possible Spartan has switched manufacturers for the top hats, but ours is from RealWheels Truck Parts and Accessories Right after we took delivery of our motorhome, I noticed the tag axle covers would slide off slightly while driving. Spartan directed me to Real Wheels who replaced my 4 finger attachment bands with 6 finger units and the covers have remaided in place ever since.

My spartan hasn't lost the rear chrome "bells" because spartan has installed "fingers" that hold the bell in place. But I miss the way Freightliner screws the bell in place with their logo and hex-sided nut.

I converted my tag axle over to the new style. They work great and the threaded nuts won't ever let them slide off like the original "fingers" version did.

The older 4 finger version has been changed to 6 fingers and are VERY strong. I bought mine last fall to get rid of the peep hole in the derby cover on my tag. I bought the stainless covers and the 6finger kit for less than $140 for two. I also tweaked the older 4finger to hold a lot tighter.

Quite likely the most useless and potentially dangerous system I can imagine. Lost our highhat hubs twice. As luck would have it, my wife was following in the car and we managed to rescue them from the ditch. We took them to professional tire service centers to have them reinstalled & they refused to touch them.

The wife also refused to let me reinstall them & frankly I wasn't happy about taking responsibility for putting these potentially lethal missiles back on or MH. So........

It was either run without hub covers or find a solution. I went to a stainless fabricator & had them fab. 2 stainless "tabs" which could attach to two lug nuts at 180•

No problems now!

I've never had a problem with mine w/67k on the odometer. Occasionally when checking tires I will "pop" them with my hand and sometimes they are just slightly pulled away from the wheel.
