RV Chassis Competition

With Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation buying the high end business at American Coach and Newmar will Spartan stay in the motorhome chassis business with Entegra being the only coach builder using Mountain Master, K2, and K3 chassis?

Newmar Essex is on the K2 and the King Aire is on the K3.

Tiffin Phaeton is on the MM and the Zephyr is on the K2.

Almost every Phaeton is on FL now. The Essex is now available on the FL SL chassis.

My understanding is that some of the aforementioned are due during the next 12 months to rebid chassis contracts. Heard that from a reliable source, but who knows. I do believe Spartan is in it for the long term having played a round of golf recently with a senior person from the company, based upon his comments concerning the company and their commitment to the RV customer.

Spartan's main business is the emergency vehicle market, but with the current business climate I doubt they will withdraw from the RV chassis market.

This seems to me like OEMs previously known for quality have begun cutting corners on all but their highest end coaches.

There is simply no comparison for me between Spartan and Freightliner. Spartan has unsurpassed handling, ride quality, chassis quality and support with a pretty loyal following - they're not going anywhere in terms of the RV market. I'll be looking at Entegra or another manufacturer that hasn't skimped when it's time for the next upgrade - which hopefully won't be for a while.
