I have a '98 Dutch Star on a Spartan Chassis and I'm curious if this is proper behavior. When I dump air the rear drops immediately but the front doesn't drop until I pretty empty the tanks using the "dump" button on the HWH control pad. My unit is not auto and I have to level manually. Is this normal or is there something I should check?

Thank you,
Joe

Hi Joe,
I do not know your specific year of Newmar coach. Gut feel says if it dumps when you want and pumps up when you want, you are good to go. If you remain uncomfortable, keep an eye on the pressure gages. Also, if you can hear the compressor, while motoring down the road, keep an ear to how much it runs.

I believe it should dump all the way around at the same time. Just a fuess, but sounds like the front dump valve(s) is not getting the signal, OR is not properly responding to the signal to dump.

Not all HCV (height control valve) and dump valves are equal. Some are instant and some are time delay. Are you the original owner or have you ever had air suspension work done? I'll assume that you have an intermediate Spartan chassis like a MM, 1MM, K2, IC2242 ect. (29,000-up GVWR). The OEM HCVes were mfg'ered by Ridewell and were instant dump using a normally closed dump valve (activated by an electric solenoid operated thru your HWH) that received a pressure signal from the PPV ( protective pressure valve).

With that said , you should not have to hold the HWH "down" buttom down till the air spring bags empty. Do the front spring bags drop equally? What is the remaining air pressure for suspension read on your gauge? It should have 65-70 psi .

If both drop equally, check the pressure signal . If unequal check the screen in the 1/4 NPT inlet port of the HCV.
