Hi All iRV2'rs: Just rcvd. in the mail a Recall Service Bulletin from Spartan (#RSB08-940-002) w. NHTSA # 08V-275) for motorhomes having a Vehicle Date of Manufacture (VDM) of May 3, 2007 through July 18,2007. Yup, that's us...dang it!! As stated...."Certain chassis fasteners may fracture resulting in poor handling of the vehicle, loss of steering and/or reduced level of suspension performance which could result in a crash".... We talked to Spartan (Richard) who was wonderful in getting us scheduled into a Spartan shop near us right away and we're going in on Wed. 7/16. Will let ya'all know what we find. MY QUESTION!!!!......can anyone of you tell me what-n-the-heck is a "chassis fastener"....and where exactly are they located on our coach????? We drive an 08 Newmar Essex, 500 ISM Cummins, 45 ft. rig. Do I have to have my basement empty for them to inspect frame rails er anything???? We're full-timers living in our rig and don't have an easy place to store all that stuff. Sure could use your insight. Thanks. Steve & Lynette

Sounds like the "huck" bolts that hold the frame together. Most likely they will want to check all the drame rails

Purely speculation here on my part, but I wouldn't doubt internal auditing or inspection could have turned up that an improper grade bolt could have been used in a particular location which would require them to inspect for the condition.

All of the chassis manufacturers purchase a suspension system and attach it under the frame rails. If they found a wrong grade fastener used, or have had a proper fastener fail at proper torque levels, they may want to recall those units for inspection or replacement.

I do believe if you call Spartan for more details on the recall, or speak with the shop you are scheduling teh recall with, they should be able to tell you of the exact location of the fastener they need to check.

Dave, Karen, et. al: (Re: Spartan Recall..resolution): G'Morning from Duluth, MN. Well, yesterday, Mon. 7/28, after spending Sunday night in Inland Truck lot in Sioux Falls, SD, we moved our rig into their svc. bay at 8:50-ish a.m., and were outa there by by 9:50. Spartan had been in communication with Inland Service and had faxed them instruction and photos needed so the Inland techs could examine ALL bolts involved in this recall. ALL were o.k., no fractures, and all were torked correctly. There were 14 fasteners involved (6 related to steering connection and 8 other smaller ones which I have no idea of where or what they were fastening, since, although I saw the faxed photos from Spartan, the pics were pretty black and not recognizable, although tech could and did decipher em along with Spartan instructions. At any rate ALL was well, and we drove North to here in Duluth. Gotta tell ya....WE REALLY LIKE THE WAY SPARTAN DOES BUSINESS....they're a great outfit. Steve & Lynette
