Charlotte, Mich.-based Spartan Motors Inc., a manufacturer of specialty chassis and vehicles, will be relocating its motorhome chassis manufacturing operations to Wakarusa, Ind., from Michigan and creating up to 60 new jobs by the second half of 2012.
More here.

Thanks for putting up the information Dirk! I saw the story in the Press today as well.
I expect that things are getting busy at Spartan and they want to get the RV side unencumbered from the commercial side. Another benefit is possibly being closer to the Indiana body builders.

I hope this will lead to a renewed interest in Newmar using or making available the Spartan chassis across all models. My interest in buying a new Dutch Star will be renewed then- and not until then.

Las Vegas, Nevada, February 22, 2011 – Spartan Chassis, Inc., a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPAR), today announced that a multi-year supply agreement has been signed with the Navistar Engine Group allowing for the expansion of clean diesel engine offerings on its signature emergency response cab and chassis, the Gladiator. The announcement was made at the Spartan Chassis 2011 Partnership Meeting which is well attended by Emergency Response Dealers and Fire Apparatus Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
Spartan is offering the EPA 2010-compliant MaxxForce® 13 Big Bore engine on its 2011 Gladiator models. The engine features Navistar’s advanced in-cylinder emissions technology that minimizes the requirement for after treatment components, fluids and weight in order to maintain critical space for body applications.
continued ....
--- A move toward using an in-cylinder emission control strategy using the Maxxforce 13 has been announced by Spartan for use in their emergency and commercial sector. Would you welcome this strategy into the RV sector and would it influence your purchasing decision?

Hi:
Gee, just North of Nappanee. That would be convenient, eh?

I have been partial to Cummins engines, however, I'm open minded about the Navistar engines. We will see how their track record developes and how their engines evolve.
One of the biggest problems that I have with the Feightliner chassis is the 100 gallon fuel tank. I like my 150 gallon tank that I have and do not want to go backwards to a 100 gallon tank.
The way to improve the 150g tank is to make it 200 gallons!!!

That's not much of a move as they're about 135 miles apart now. But there must be a reason other than distance.
