Strange air guage readings

Started up yesterday for our long drive from our Florida base back to our South Carolina lot and noticed one of the air gauges was not reading normally. The needle on the gauge marked "front air" was pointing straight down. The suspension had aired up normally and the brakes were working fine, I elected to continue on our trip. The first couple of times I shut down for one of our breaks I noticed the needle swung back around about 120 degrees (as on a compass). On start up it swung back down again. I'm attaching photos of the ignition on and off needle positions. It appeared to me that the needle was moving the correct amount, but it was "clocked" to far around the dial so zero was now at about the 100 position on the gauge.

Now for the really weird part. My third and last stop of the day was to top of the fuel tank. When I restarted the needle stopped very close to where it should be and when I shut down at my final destination it went back to zero.

Any ideas on what is going on?

Electric gauges get their signals from sending units located somewhere in the air lines. I changed both of my sending units, even though only one gauge was obviously reading incorrectly. When was the last time you changed your air dryer cartridge?

The air dryer cartridge was changed out at three years, or just over one year ago.

Any recollection as to how much those gauges were?

Mine were S-W. Seems to me they were around $95 each. Mine were located in front of the firewall, near the treadle.

Before you buy a gauge, you need to check the sender and wire, on it.

Agree with checking the sender. They fail fairly often due to exposure to the air and moisture in the system. They are cheaper than the guage. Sometimes, a light tap on the sender with a wrench will loosen them up.

Yes, check wiring first and make sure grounds have clean contact.
