Tag axle off center

A couple of friends have noticed their tags, while apparently properly aligned (track straight) they are off center 1/2 to 3/4s of an inch. Spartan has told them up to 3/4s is "within spec".

Has anyone else seen this? Any correspondence with Spartan?

On our 18 London Aire with Spartan chassis have noticed after backing up the tag axle is turned a couple degrees off center. When we pull forward the axle is then straight. Should see tire wear on tag axle tires if off enough to see.

Yea, they're talking when straight. Apparently the axel is offset to one side slightly. Niether has noticed any unusual wear.

by "offset"...do you mean that the tag tires are not in line with the drive / front tires when looking from the rear?
And both tags are pushed to the same side? ie: not centered?

Originally I though you meant that they weren't centered in the wheel opening.

The entire axle is off center left to right, but apparently tracks straight. At least thats my understanding.

Certainly possible to track fine as long as the wheelbase is same left to right. ie: all axle centerlines are parallel when steering straight ahead.

Wonder why it's off center...one of these days I'll look at my K2 to see if it's same.

Would be a different tag axle assembly on DS with a K2 chassis and 12K weight rating with MA on up a 14K tag axle. What measurement are owners are using to determine the axle is out of alignment?

On my Father-in-laws Tiffin, he was seeing unusual wear, found the issue was not offset left or right. Which I agree, is not and issue if off a little.
But they found his was 3 degrees off from perpendicular from the frame, or not parallel with the drive axle.
Not sure what kind of alignment machine can find this, but fixed and monitoring.

Having the rear axle off centered is common in regular cars and trucks. Usually because over time the suspension wears and the panhard bar(usually the only lateral link) is designed for a particular ride height. A few mmj of sag can cause the axle to shift left or right but maintain regular tire wear and stay parallel with the front. Just not in the same track.
