I have a MM chassis, 2005.

For future reference, the factory installed a 6-pin connector labeled BRAKE CONTROLLER right at the steering column, its bundle originating at the exact level of the instrument panel lower edge five or six inches forward of the column itself. Owners might have to clip some ties to unwrap a bundle or two, but it's easy to find.

Here's the rub: Prodigy and other posts talk about the white wire being GND, black for power, red for brakes. All that adds up. But, on the MM there is a second, beefier red wire.

I'm going to road-test the rig with a meter hooked to this second red wire this morning, and wonder if it is attached to the pac brake. 'Seem to remember that someone had mentioned that it was, but cannot locate the post.

My email to Spartan about the other half of the plug went unanswered, so I clipped the wires and did simple butt splices, which are more secure.

While I was in there, I tore out the entire parking brake release mounting assembly and rebuilt it. Someone had repaired it with self-tapping bolts and we all know what the future of such a fix is bound to become. Now, with a shortened arm, three edges MiG welded, and the whole thing assembled with 1/4" cad-plated aircraft bolts with locknuts, she is as solid as a bumper mount. In fact, it is eerie to have one's shins immediately behind the MM's sharp steel edges at 70 feet per second... To underscore the importance of that thought, I'll attach a photo of my next-door neighbors' show-quality Prevost after a tight-knit pack of cars wedged in front of them and slammed on their brakes, the other day.

It's customary for the brake wire to be blue. Red is Aux power to the trailer hitch to charge a battery or power interior trailer lights. The red wire would be hot all the time. The blue, coming from the controller, hot when you stepped on the brake pedal.

Thanks, D. Spartan, it turns out, deviates from the norm.

I was puzzled that the multimeter showed no 12VDC from the factory bundle unless the pedal was depressed.

Well, I went under the dash center section and found a mini 30A fuse labeled BRAKE CONT. Sure enough, blown.

Installed, with the key rotated one stop, the thicker of the two red Spartan wires powered up.

So, for you installers:

Spartan MM Chassis (2005) BRAKE CONTROLLER Plug:
  • Hvy ga Red - 12VDC
  • Black - Gnd
  • Lt ga Red - Brake switch
  • Blue - Trailer brake

Prodigy P2 Wiring:
  • White - Gnd
  • Red - Brake switch
  • Blue - Trailer brake
  • Black - 12VDC
Yes, a call to Spartan would suffice, too. I was just doing this over the weekend...

If the Spartan plug matches the Prodigy plug, it should be plug-n-play. You got burnt by a blown fuse. When I put my Voyager controller in my Dodge Ram, I didn't even look at the color of the wires. Just plugged it in and wired it to my 7 way. My `04 Breeze didn't come with an adapter. I just ran two 14ga wired to the 7 way and spliced into the existing 5 way for the lights.
